Dumb question: What's VS, as in "That VS DLC acronym everyone here has been using in several threads but never types out so I don't know what it is,"?

I didn't like the podcast because it did not address the question.

Did you ask him if Ash and Kaidan fans are always gonna get treated like crap?

VS = Virmire Survivor (ME1)
Either Ashley or Kaidan

Wow. The sheer amount of backlash this received is astounding. And still I've yet to find one thread in the entire Mass Effect forums that do not have people arguing over ME1 vs ME2.

I am just wondering if Bioware will find their quads and put Mr.Walters in the front line to answer real fans questions or will it continue in this back patting manner?

Shut. THE **** UP! with your stupid VS...
They're one of the most badly written characters of the ME franchise so far, I can't understand how people can romance that damn right annoying Carth in 2 different franchises and not wish to die..
As for Ashley... I can't consider her beautiful by my standards... huge lips, whaddaf*ck ears, creepy eyes... Just screams "bad"...

So now stuck it up your ass and lets discuss get back on topic.

lmao! Oh you must be one of those female turian lovers huh, and want to be able to get with wrex in ME3? You have no taste in women obviously. Good luck with that!!. And i couldn't understand what you were trying to say in that last part, English much?

I think its a safe bet the back patting will continue, maybe interspersed with some back-side patting from time to time.

On a serious note I would give a right arm to be able to put 5 fan questions to Mac Walters regarding the story. The wouldnt even be nasty questions that would put him in a tight spot just plain nice lore related questions.

Why am I under the impression that despite very well chosen questions he'll still be at some point pinned to the wall?

I think you guys are not getting any closer to your anwsers by literaly flaming every post by a BioWare employee... especialy when it's not related to the toppic you are interested in.

I have to agree..

I had no idea there was actually a group of people who think they are actively being treated like crap, when actually the devs haven't said anything :/   Fair enough when people complain about things in the game they don't like, and explain why, but equating silence to mistreatment - that's being a bit melodramatic I think...

They aren't allowed to say a lot... they probably will as we come closer to the game, though...  And besides, they've already said that your ME1 LI will play a big role in ME3.

P.s. it'll be hilarious if the next big DLC involves the VS, because then a lot of people are gonna be eating their own words... :P

Well, thanks for podcast, nice to see some Bioware activity on ME subforum.
But it's just me or Mac sounds more emotionally connected with his comic than with game. He is lead writer, so it's  ... disturbing.

I miss Drew K. A LOT. Nothing against Mac Walters.

I just REALLY miss Drew's success at main story plot.

That plus Mac's characters equates to awesome.

That would be EPIC. All i want is the lead writer to come and answer some questions, questions that have been avoided by Bioware ever since ME2 was released. I can guess why.

The main plots of the games aren't the work of one person.  I don't know why people think that's the case.  It's worked out in story meetings at the beginning of development, and the whole writing team is eventually involved:

Well what is the actual process when you set about writing a game like this. Do you just sit down in your room at a typewriter and bang out the overall story for Mass Effect? You have a lot of planning meetings? How does it work?

So, generally what happens is that early in the projects -- so early Mass Effect 1 or early Mass Effect 2 -- myself, Lead Designer, Preston Watamaniuk and then Casey Hudson, the producer, we'll sit down and we'll work on the big picture stuff. What's the art? Where do we want Shepard to start? Where do we want him to go? What are the obstacles that he's going to face? And we'll bash that around for a bit and then I'll take that back to the writing team and get feedback, and they get to contribute to it as well. But once that gets hammered down, then we start looking at "What are the different levels? What are the smaller areas?" And a lot of times that's when each individual writer starts. You've got control over that level, make it work. And then overall I'm just making sure that it all fits a theme.

IOW, we actually don't know who exactly is responsible for what in the main plot of either game.

And likewise, the characters aren't the sole work of the lead writer either.  They're not even written by the same people within a single game.  Even within a single level or a single cutscene for that matter, much less all invented by one person.  And that's completely leaving out the fact that visual design has as much to do with it as dialogue, and the visual design is also worked on by multiple people.  Sometimes, the end result is extremely removed from the original concept.  Look at Saren:  he didn't start out a some ruthless, badass soldier guy.  He was originally going to spend the first game running around in dark, flowing robes and being all spooky and ominous and stuff.

Lol, I know I'm knitpicking, but did Mac say that the Reapers wipe out all organic life in the galaxy, instead of just galactic civilisation?  :P  Also, he said the TIM was introduced in ME2 rather than Drew's book, Ascension -eeeee..  Anyway, I'm curious to know if he writes TIM's dialogue in ME, or anyone's in the games...  I really like TIM's dialogue...

EDIT:  Completely forgot to say, it is REALLY cool hearing the devs in a podcast

Well you know there are some serious issues when news coming from Devs is met with anger rather then optimism.
Sad Times :(:(
