I have heard tell of having 2 NWN2 install directories.  One is used for playing, the other for building.   This sounds very useful.  How is it done?

You don't need a separate install dir, just a separate home dir. Use the -home <path> argument for nwn2main (or nwlauncher if using the CE) to specify a different home dir. This would replace looking in Documents\\Neverwinter Nights 2 with a custom path you provide.

Hmmm...

Wait a second. You don't have to use My Documents? My game is installed to C:/Games/NWN2. But all the custom content (and content downloaded with ADL from PWs) goes to the "Neverwinter Nights 2" folder in "My Documents". I don't like using My Documents because:

a) It is Computer user specific
B) I'm thinking of getting a SSD for my OS and a normal drive for my games. I don't want to install stuff to the OS HD but if it has to go into My Documents, I have little choice.

Ideally, I would like to either:

1. Move the Nerverwinter Nights 2 folder from My Documents to somewhere else.
2. Move My Documents from the OS drive to the other drive.

So if you can do this, can you give me a more basic set of instructions on how to do it (what file to open and what to change). I have no idea how to "use the -home argument". :)

Edit: Ah, it seems that I misread the OP's question. In that case, it would be great if someone could answer my issue above and perhaps explain SkywingL's post a little more. Thank you, guys.

The only configuration option I'm aware of is for the autodownloader. You can tell it to store files in a different directory, if you build and play on the same server. You simply have to edit the program shortcuts in your windows start menu to include " -home path/to/new/directory" in the target field. There's an autodownloader thread in these forums which explains all that in more detail.

As Skywing says, you can use the -home flag. However, you can create a copy of your NWN2 shortcut and put "-home <directory>" after the address of the program itself. Then, when you run it, the game should automatically create the new directory for you (i.e. including sub-folders etc), and it should only use the overrides from the directory, not your old one. If you copy the shortcut this way, you can switch between the two (or three, or four etc) easily, making it great for testing things in your override without messing up other games you play (another problem I noticed was trying to view premade characters when the races mods I made them with had been removed).
