Reapers are suppose to grind up the "goods" of the most dynamic race in the galaxy, and form a new Reaper. Which is why we got good ol' Terminator at the end of ME2. Humans were suppose to be the best bilogical race in the galaxy.
So why do all the current Reapers look like squids? I find it hard to believe that squids were the most advanced race in the last galaxy before it got destroyed.
Were squids really the most advanced race next to humans?

A.) Why is this in the ME1 forum?
B.) You don't know that their final shape is based on the species they destroyed each cycle. Their "squid" shape may be more functional. Hull shape and design may function better for handling gravitational stresses in certain environments, as well as ensuring that they are able to move well through atmospheres and maybe even liquid environments when they go to reap a planet. Tentacle design gives them flexible weapons platforms and the ability to grip structures, which would be useful for moving resources. And so on...
Point being, there is no real indication beyond the baby Reapernator that Reapers must, in the end, resemble the species they are built from.
(personally, I found that whole concept rather stupid, and reapernator was a let-down)

A. I can't post in the Mass Effect 2 forum for some strange reason.
B. So if it's all about functionality...why did they make a terminator? I thought it was said in game that they design the ship based off of the species who's genetic material was used to make it.

The cuttlefish is just a shell, a vessel. The true Reaper is inside of the shell.

So the Terminator if it had been sucessfull would have been in a cuttlefish as well? I was picturing a giant Terminator swimming through space. Pretty epic, lol.
In that case, what did the Reaper look like inside of Soverign(sp?)? I thought Soverign was the giant cuttlefish, but according to you, he would have been a Reaper inside of it. Wouldn't the evil Turien have talked to him directly within the ship if that was the case? There were no cut scenes to show this.
Plus, when you go into the dead Reaper, they refer to the cuttlefish as the Reaper itself. Not a shell. There was no giant dead cybernetic-organic thingy in there.

The reason for the above is because we did not know about this until the very end of ME2.

I'm not saying I don't believe you, in fact it sounds pretty awesome. But do you have any proof of this? The "Reaper" page on the Mass Effect wiki doesn't state anything like this under there design.

Don't underestimate squid.
I'm partial to the argument that the squid shape is for functionality. Wouldn't they need the bodies of billions of squid people to make all the reapers given what we know about the Terminator one? That's a lot of squid people.

I do.
The shape of the Reapers we have encountered so far in comparison to the Human Reaper we encountered in the Collector base.
I find it very hard to believe that all life up until our current "galactic cycle" has been cuttlefish shaped.

'Careth but for Setebos
The many-handed as a cuttle-fish,
Who, making Himself feared through what He does,
Looks up, first, and perceived he cannot soar
To what is quiet and hath happy life;
Next looks down here, and out of very spite
Makes this a bauble-world to ape yon real,
These good things to match those as hips do grapes.

The reason you can't post in the ME2 forums is that you need to register your game. As far as reaper shape, we don't know why they are shaped as they are.

Reapers are what, around a mile long?? The human reaper was maybe 1/4 that if finished to scale, so unless they decided to give him strange legs or something, then the extra length would have to come from somewhere. Also look up next time you are playing ME2 IFF mission when you get to the spikes just before seeing the last teammate.

That baby infant looking reaper would have been epic, I really like that design.
Also, could you tell me what is up? I plan on playing through 1 and then 2 again, but that's not going to be for a long time.

If you save the base in ME2, Legion states that the Reapers were originally organics who uploaded their minds to the ships. Why they all look like squid/cuttlefish/scarab beetles is anyone's guess.
And if what Legion said is true, the Human Reaper makes no sense at all, unless they planned on trying to upload human minds to it.

I can't help but think how impressive the first proper encounter with Sovereign was in ME1. When you realised the ship wasn't just a ship.
The Reapernator was more of a comedy moment.

You have to think they are using human organic matter to form the ships maybe its like using stem cells and they don't choose how it forms it just makes one big ass humanoid shape. Either that or it has to be more of a philosophical reason.
