Well Stanley Woo, I for one am thankful that you are talking to us. I hate the incivility that can be found on the internet too.

What if there was a development appreciation thread where we:

a) list two things we like about the company and
B) ask one question about what's in the works, which hopefully devs would answer?

*shrug*

Or, they could choose one of the questions to answer out of a series of questions, say, out of every page?  Or they could answer a question every week or every couple of days?

I know one of the Bioware writers apparently had a meltdown on the old forums.

i think we've all had a bit of a meltdown at one time or another, those of us who frequent the forums. i know I've had my share of ill-advised moments.

Indeed. The forums really seem excessively filled with resentful topics and excessive sensitivity about potential ME3 or DLC spoilers.

I've wondered about the Virmire survivor and my relationship with the Alliance as much as everyone else who has posted on the topic, but I've always assumed that Bioware would address that topic where it fit best, and if it ultimately was too large a topic for DLC, or too much involved in the ME3 story to be seperated from it, that regardless it will ultimately be addressed.

Looking back at Dragon Age, one of my biggest problems with DA:O was that by the time the game was released I already felt I had played it based on the, IMHO, excessive volume of trailers that were used as advanced publicity. I still loved the game, but I wished there had been fewer spoilers. In the case of DA:2, it seems Bioware are being much more circumspect about spoilers, and I, for one, am very happy about that change in focus.

So, maybe that is one of the reasons, aside from the ones Stanley Woo already cited, that the developers are not exactly rushing in to comment here.

Addressing our specific concerns, be it about the Virmire Survivor, or why is 'only' Earth being attacked, or why can't we see Tali's face, may necessarily lead to major spoilers that Bioware intend not to reveal now because this is ultimately a story driven game, and stories reveal themselves to you in the order they need to based on there own expository needs, and not because of your feelings about a specific character or plot line.

I think Bioware deserves more trust and respect than has been shown recently. Developing a complex RPG like Mass Effect is not easy, especially when so many options have been given to the player that affect not just one, but a multitude of plotlines through three seperate games.

So let's have a little more patience, please!:)

It is a privelage for us to discuss and/or read what the Devs have to say.
Why you don't understand that Mr_Commander_Shepard is beyond me, and many other forumites here.

Why do you get so mad? Sounds personal to you.

Well, certainly, your posts indicate you take this to heart.

Secondly, in this forum, you're not supposed to attack someone, especially on a personal level.
*Keep in mind, while I'm telling you this, I'm not mad, just trying to offer some clarity for you.*
And basically, that's what I'm here for, to make things clear to confused fans like you. It's ok, we all at some point in time can't understand how or why something does or does not happen.
But basically, I'm telling you one thing, trying to help you understand, and yet it goes in one ear and out the other with you...

And that is exactly how the Devs feel with this community. So, you are proving my point.

I'm not taking any of this to heart, your opinion differs from mine. No need to go start saying im annoying and calling me a troll because of it. I know what your saying and i disagree with you. Calm down.

Don't know if the question portion would be feasible due to the fact that they have to keep some stuff under wraps for a long while.

Every one knows that we don't own BioWare and we don't expect them to do as we say. But we do expect them to talk with us sometimes. Some people keep bringing up the fact that they did so many months ago, well that was good, but that was a while ago. They have the right to do as they want. But for them to not want to is just wrong. If they don't want to talk to us until ME3 draws near then we think that they should at LEAST tell us that.

Okey, I try to explain it. You notice that what's bolded and what's underlined has conflict.

Bolded, says there is no talk required, it's up to Bioware what ever they do.
Underline says, but they need to talk to us because we want (demand) it.

Point here is you keep pushing for Bioware what you want or demand and also sometimes judge them not doing what you want.

Underline should be more like this: -- It would be nice if Bioware would talk more to us. --

Do you see the difference.

PS: I don't say anything you sayd was bad at all, it was fine, but "tune" when reading something, tells posters attitude. That's what I meaned when I sayed, it also matters how something is sayed, not just what is sayed.

I'm not the best talker. I don't try to be a jerk or anything. I'm just trying to get my point across. Thx for not insulting me

Listen man, I just want to say...I wasn't trying to lash out at you...I may have come off that way, but it's because I've been upset with the negativity lately. I was just trying to help you out...trying to explain to you how things worked around here. I mean't no offense, even if I may have said something to you. It's just that I had to repeat myself over and over about a topic that need to be explained only once...but it's ok, I'm not mad, and I hope you aren't either. Let's rejoice that Mass Effect 3 is coming out this year.

Can I third that?  I'll probably return to trepidation over how the story will end soon enough, but tonight I'm seeing that either the end of the saga will rock my socks off, or it won't and it'll be over anyway, so why worry?

I love BioWare games.  All of them.  Yes, some of them have some minor flaws that bother me a little, but I don't go all crazy all over everyone about them.  Hell, one of them I have to have my husband play for me in parts.  I still love the game, though.  Seriously, some of the people who post must be incredibly hard to live with in RL.  Perfectionists, all of them.

Until tonight, strangely enough, I'd stopped even coming over here because the nastiness was so prevalent.  I get enough of that on the DA forums, thanks.  I don't need a double dose of it.  But, like someone said earlier, Darth Gaider rips them a new one if they get out of line over there.  And, thank god for it!  When that poster over there started in on Sheryl Chee, because he felt she didn't post in a "professional" manner, it just made me die a little inside.  This is the reason that the developers don't post.  When people treat you like sh!t, why would you?  If you were a dev, would you say, "Oh boy!  I have some time while this is compiling.  I think I'll go over to the forums and get screamed at!"  Sounds fun, right?

I just wish people would take it down a notch.  Seriously.  I wish the old forumites would come back and help whip this place back into shape, again.  It's depressing how many of them got fed up and left. Image IPB

you act like everyone on these forums are out to get the devs. Your gonna have the trolls and kids that are angry about everything in life but if we can deal with it then they can too, if this is the case then they need thicker skin. If we are talking with the devs and someone starts flaming at the dev more than likely everybody is gonna take the devs side.

And please, i was participating the DA forums since the old version, it has nothing to do with the fact the game is beeing finalized, the dev activity has always been high there, as it should been

a) Because they already have your money for ME 2.

B) Because they probably don't like to read all the complaints about ME 2.

c) Because they know that they would lose most arguments about the flaws of ME 2.

d) Their contracts might prevent them from discussing certain topics anyway.

a) You know that they would do that in their free time, right? So they would have to like posting here.

B) That's not even their job. :pinched:

c) By who? A bunch of elitists who will be proven wrong and still scream OMG REEEEEEEETCON.

d)

I think we need to hit the reset button in regards to fan/dev relations. Lets start over with a clean state. If this doesn't get addressed in the early stages, it will just get progressively worse - and all of the fan love people used to shower over Bioware that made them what they are to day will start to decrease. The result won't be pretty. I'd like to think we can all act like mature adults and respect each other.

-Polite

How would that be possible? Make non-constructive criticism a reason for being temp-banned for a few hours, and the situation will just explode. There is basically no way back right now. Ignorant people will never learn, and newbies and lurkers will always be afraid to go back in such a community. Not until ME3 will be released, then maybe a few new people will come and deem such ridiculous attitudes unacceptable, contrary to the current situation. I still know that the same people will win in the end, just wait for a couple of months after the game is released and the general consensus would be that ME3 sucked and that it was a huge disappointment.

Or maybe some of you need to get over that they won't give you what you want if you're a jerk to them??? Why do they need to get thicker skin? They don't have to put up with any forum BS if they don't want to.

It should be noted that while being called names or generally criticized can be dealt with easily, having your work of art is not. Have some of the people here never experienced that?

I don't think arguing is the problem, because disagrements allways exists. It's more problem how the arguing is done, like how someone says something.

I my self have cause some problems here in community, because I'm pretty active, direct and I don't change my mind easyly. Also I often look from different perspective than someone else. People don't like what I say, because they disagree with it. How ever, biggest problem happens when others opinions starts to annoy and it cause negative angry response back. It's really hard to write allways with respect and polite way, when try to express different opinions as disagreement. There is so much learning in simple forum communication. I don't think this internet anonymous make it's any easyer. People aren't like this when they are face to face situations.

How ever, more polite, respect and constructive matter we can write, better this forum is for everyone.

I completely agree. Considering how ridiculously sensitive and outraged a lot of people on this forum get over the smallest and most petty things, they're hypocrites to tell the devs to get thicker skin. They wouldn't react nearly as well as the devs. They're devs, not customer service. They don't even have to be here.

I think this is a big factor. Having created something you're really proud of and then coming here to have it torn to pieces by flamers instead of getting constructive critisism is probably a lot harder than many would think.
