...Or lack thereof.

The Qunari we see in the trailers have tattoos that appear to signify that they belong to the same group, and their leader is essentially confirmed to be an Arishok. However, there appears to be very little worn in for protection. We see muscle bound men charge right into battle with only pants and weapon in hand. I can understand if these soldiers feel that there is no need to to armor themselves after seeing the Destiny trailer, and yet I feel like there is still some sort of recognizable hierarchy. Take the Arishok and his shoulder pads, and what appears to me like the common soldier (ones with no shirt). Compare these two groups with to the three in this picture behind the Arishok http://xbox360.ign.c...?page=mediaFull . So is there something important that the Qunari place on shoulders at all? (Really only the devs can answer that though).

Edit: HA I didn't mean it to sound like that :innocent:, but it is funny. "...with only pants and weapon in hand"

That's more than Isabela can boast.

I'm perturbed about the whole lack of armor thing myself, the Qunari are supposed to clad in glittering steel or some such in one of the Codex Entries.

You know what doesn't float? Steel. And Kirkwall's a harbor city...just saying...

I don't think Laidlaw was making an excuse, though 99.99999993% of the people that have responded to seem to think so.

99.99999993% of the people here also don't know the role the qunari play in DA2. All will be clear once they do.

Oh, you mean that race from Par Vollen who see it as a mission to subvert all cultures through war in order to follow their religion?

Maker only knows what those qunari soldiers we saw in those releases will be up too.

Probaly relief work. Those caring souls.^_^

Since you know everything, you must also know the context in which the qunari appear in DA2 and why their appearance is not so unbelieveable. Well done. You earn a gold star.

So it will make sense as to why the Qunari in DA2 are all shirtless and dressed in Braveheart paint versus the whole glittering armor and cannons deal they were portrayed as in Origins?

I guess you'll have to wait and see, won't you?

To my recollection, they didn't appear in glittering armor or have cannons in Origins, either. There were about 8 of them and they wore armor very much like everyone else, and were decidedly cannon free.

And if you haven't learned not to entirely trust our codex entries, yet, especially the ones about historical events, the world of Dragon Age will continue to astonish at every turn.

I cannot stress this enough, folks: when the first words of the first game in a series are "The Chantry teaches us..." you should be prepared to take just about everything with a grain of salt. Even the guys who write the Pen and Paper sourcebooks don't know everything that's going on in the world of Thedas, especially in it's largely forgotten past.

Some mysteries are best kept to a very small group.

@ Mike Laidlaw.
Are cannons Chantry lies too?
...Why would they lie about that?

Wouldn't gunboat dipmacy be what the Qunari would do? In an amphibious invasion?

See, now you're thinking like a Dragon Age fan! Would the chantry lie about something like that? Would they find political gain in representing the Qunari as an unbeatable threat? Or are they telling the truth? WHO CAN SAY*?

Tinfoil hats, everyone!

Worried about guns being in the setting? We have knights wearing 15th century armor, why would matchlock guns be considered out of place? I'd love it if there was at least one that you could get from a qunari. Like the musket in Jade Empire.

Ahhh, Mirabelle. How fondly I remember the test of wits before you acquired her.

The last thing I want to see happen with DA is to have it get so muddled in mysteries piled on  top of unexplained or inconsistent lore that it simply turns into some muddled mess like LOST.

Then we shall endeavor not to let that happen.

In related news, look for us to explain the polar bear in DA IV.
