That's more than Isabela can boast.

I'm perturbed about the whole lack of armor thing myself, the Qunari are supposed to clad in glittering steel or some such in one of the Codex Entries.

You know what doesn't float? Steel. And Kirkwall's a harbor city...just saying...

It's not like the Qunari have to go there by boat or have to worry about drowning once they're on land.

Are they all worried the're going to be kicked off a seaside cliff 300 style?

Maybe they're Qunari version of Marines?

Yes I suppose the Qunari are incapable of changing their clothes once on land.

...That explains everything.

It could just be that the qunari you've seen so far just don't use armor.

No it doesn't. Nobody in Kirkwall seems to have a problem wearing massive armor in a harbor city.
This is just the rule of cool. The qunari are shirtless barbarians because it's "awesome".

But if they swam or sailed into the city, they couldn't haul armor with them.

It makes sense if they entered the city by ship.

It does, and it is also going off the point a bit. Rather than trying to see if there is an identifiable rank structure for the Qunari by observing their visual design, we seem to be getting into how people don't like the way the Qunari look clashes with how people thought they were in Origins. I'm not actually against how the Qunari have been "changed", rather I'm intrigued enough to look into it.

Why? Are they going to swim to kirkwall? They'd get swept up in the tides and smashed against rocks.

Steel doesn't float?  I bet a couple of battleships would take exception to this claim. :D  Beach-assaulting Marines wear plenty of gear that doesn't float so well, also. I'm curious to see what kind of tactics the Qunari will adopt (assuming we even get a chance to see them) in their invasion.  I assume they don't just want to reduce the city to rubble, as they probably will need to make use of the fortifications in order to hold territory.  (Otherwise, they could just sit back and bombard the place with their guns for a few days.)  If they conduct a traditional siege/blockade, there's a good chance that some other curious folks will show up and mount a counter-attack before they're ready.

If I were conducting this, I'd land a small unit of inconspicuous troops (read, HUMANS) with a few kegs of gunpowder further up the coast, give them a day or two to sneak in and get set up, then sail up and open negotiations, using this as an opportunity to offload as many of my troops as possible.  Then I'd have my sappers blow out a chunk of the wall, rush my heavily armed and armored troops through the gap, take as many hostages as possible, and make it a rush priority to rebuild the dismantled section of wall.  Then I'd start pacifying the rest of the city one chunk at a time, all the while bringing more troops in on ships.

Yeah, I'm disappointed with how the Qunari (or at least all we've seen of them thus far in DA2) seem to be shirtless, war painted barbarian beast men.

If the Qunari came to Kirkwall by sea, it would have been awesome to have them roll in all shock and awe, Conquistador style with canons blazing on their ships, decked out in badass glittering steel armor that caused the people of Kirkwall to **** themselves at the sight of them and their technological superiority.

Instead they look like minotaur versions of Braveheart.:pinched:

If they get attacked at sea on the way to Kirkwall or one of their ships gets smashed by Kirkwall defensive weapons it could help.

Because they don't worship the Drowned God.

Where is Kirkwall on a map of the Free Marches? Isn't it across the sea, north of Ferelden?

Right because it's impossible to place armor on a boat.

...Now if they swam to Kirkwall it would also bring to mind where do they have change of clothing and money.

I guess all Qunari in Kirkwall are broke and have no change of clothing then.

Unless of course they hired themselves out as mercenaries...but how did they swim with weapons?

...Yeah not buying the swimming bit. <_<

Eh? What? I mean this will all the great respect I have for you and the team, Mike, but I really think that's the worst excuse (or reason; I shouldn't be judgmental) I've ever heard from a dev for their design choices.

England was just rife with knights clad in plate armor, and they lived on a tiny, little island. Ancient Greece was a seafaring civilization and had no qualms with metal armor.

And someone already mentioned that the people who live there have no problem with Par Vollen itself is an island, and to get anywhere they'd have to travel by boat.

An amphibious assault force would not wear metal armour, and i doubt a qunari could find armour that fits in a human city (especially without being noticed).

Except the many throughout history who have. They don't need to wear their armor en route. Dock (or get close to docking), put armor on, charge!
