You could get one in Jade Empire. And in Baldur's Gate II, IIRC.

There were guns in BG II?

Yes. A ray gun, even. You got it, and the iron golem (?) armor, if you brought the bronze, silver and gold pantaloons to a smith in ToB.

In an attempt to stay on topic, I will say that I'm bothered by how the Qunari "uniform" consists of very minimal armor, minus the shoulder and arm pads for the Arishok. The chests, backs, and arms of the infantry are pretty much exposed. Not what I'd expect from a rather pragmatic race. Maybe it's just me.

99.99999993% of the people here also don't know the role the qunari play in DA2. All will be clear once they do.

Oh, you mean that race from Par Vollen who see it as a mission to subvert all cultures through war in order to follow their religion?

Maker only knows what those qunari soldiers we saw in those releases will be up too.

Probaly relief work. Those caring souls.^_^

I quite enjoy it when the devs come into a thread and gently take the mickey out of overeager fanboys (and girls).

Actually, I was getting that impression too. They have chains attached to their armour? And their faces covered. And a cool link thing on their face mask as if they can be chained in a line to the qunari in front, perhaps.

(Maybe?)

Yes, they are mages, Gaider confirmed as much in an old thread.

Lol, please read ahead. I explained why I put that in great detail.

Also I assumed he would appreciate my Alistair-esqu reply.

Imagine my suprise when he barked back with a Loghain retort.:o

To my recollection, they didn't appear in glittering armor or have cannons in Origins, either. There were about 8 of them and they wore armor very much like everyone else, and were decidedly cannon free.

Well, the only qunari we get to see in DAO (save for Sten) are the ones who abandoned their society and work in tiny groups as mercenaries. So, well, not exactly representative for the mainstream of their species.

Worried about guns being in the setting? We have knights wearing 15th century armor, why would matchlock guns be considered out of place? I'd love it if there was at least one that you could get from a qunari. Like the musket in Jade Empire.

Ahhh, Mirabelle. How fondly I remember the test of wits before you acquired her.

John Cleese is the best argument anyone could ever wield as to why one should play Jade Empire.

You also see em in DAA, and several in Sten's Fade Dream.

Exactly!  Likewise, it may be true that the ones we have seen are either in a different societal bracket than the sorts of soldiers we have either read or seen in DA:O or maybe they have been shunned from society for something.  Hey, if Sten couldn't go back without his "soul" maybe armor is stripped as a symbolic "putting-in-place" also.  *shrugs* Makes sense anyway.   Just one of many possibilities.

There are SO many logical story-based reasons possibilities as to why the appearance may have have changed, it is probably smart to wait and see so we don't end up looking like we jumped the gun

I'm picturing the ones we got to see so far to be some sort of small group of soldiers gone rogue or some other sort of "dirty dozen" operation; it's just hard for it to make enough sense otherwise. Although granted, expecting things to make sense can be a mistake on my part -- the rule of cool appears to be fully in effect in DA2.

The last thing I want to see happen with DA is to have it get so muddled in mysteries piled on  top of unexplained or inconsistent lore that it simply turns into some muddled mess like LOST.

Then we shall endeavor not to let that happen.

In related news, look for us to explain the polar bear in DA IV.

LOL!!!!!

Well, there is the possiblity that Par Vollen and Seheron have slightly different cultures,a dn thus different uniformisation. Besides, I think those qunari might be either sailors sent to fight, or have come swiming, like you do in one the Modern Warfare 2 levels. This assuming that they are invading at all. Also, in a slgihtly related topic, is there an option to spare the Arishok? 'Cuz we saw Hawke frying the crap out him with lightning in video.

Not to back track, but I haven't been on for a few days.

Sailors did not learn to swim, just because they were on a boat doesn't mean that they learned how. It's historical fact.

Second, many knights had to sail across the sea/Mediterranean & they would still wear armor, because if you didn't know how to swim you were a lost cause anyway.

Even if the qunari did not wear armor for seafaring reasons, I see no reason that they would not don armor close to or at the harbor.
