Is anybody hoping for a little dwarf romance? Varric is the one of the few dwarfs NPC's I've seen that looks kinda handsome. x3
I see what you did there.

Hell yes. Practically the entire Varric Tethras thread.

Of course, if you take away interaction, you would REALLY have to bump up the encounter-complexity, build breadth and depth, combat tactics, etc.

It’s sort of a situation where you’re in this life-or-death adventure,
you’re comrades that have been thrown together and passion springs out
of that. It was nice to get the opportunity to have a romance that took
place over years as opposed to a month at best.
...Didn't Origins take place over the course of a year?

According to this helpful timeline, the entire tale of Origins through Witch Hunt goes from 9:30 Dragon to 9:32 Dragon:

As far as romance goes, I hear that in DAO2, you'll be able to romance even those that you have negative-ish influence with? That sounds fairly promising then - just think of all the SlapSlapKiss potential such a romance would have!
That would have been fun with Morrigan

Realistic fantasy and unrealistic both have their places. I'm getting a little placated with the change of art direction for DA2 if the characters gain a bit more individuality.

Really enjoyed the interview, I'm a little taken aback Gaider didn't get Legend of the Seeker, the tv show was supposed to be over the top as it's a Sam Raimi production, that's just the style.![]()

He did say he just saw 5 minutes of a random episode. When I first saw a couple of minutes of it I was like "Why the hell are those red dressed people flying through the air? Who are those guys? What's going on?... this looks stupid"
When I started to watch from the beginning I liked it. It was entertaining and reminded me of Xena

Do I recall correctly that Gaider said no children AND no sex? Am I making that up? I can't think of where I read that. I think it was in a forum, but I'm not sure if it was a transcript of an interview or not.
If that is true, that would be weird for a relationship during a ten year storyline length.

I thought it was said that the sex scenes were cut... not that you couldn't have sex with your LI's. Not 100% positive on that, though....

I'm glad that different party members can chat with each other without the PC being involved. Mass Effect can learn a lot from this (in ME2 for example there was almost 0 party interaction apart from in confrontation scenes- which were rare).
They did that in Origins.
in terms of party banter while you were exploring yes, but in terms of actual cutscenes no.
I prefer things that happen in the flow of play, as opposed to cut-scenes. I actually don't care THAT much for tons of cut-scenes.

I'd rather you have gone the other way around and toned mages down. Alas, such is the problem of fusing the nuker and the healer in a single class, while leaving the utility and the metal ball separate: the balance of power is clearly skewed.Mike Laidlaw wrote...
2) Bring the classes into parity.
In a world where mages can lob balls of exploding fire using only their will, it was dischordant to have warriors and rogues who moved slowly and carefully. We could have absolutely addressed this by changing mages to make them more realistic, but we chose to instead give Warriors and Rogues more personality, since it added more visual flair to the game, and created a stronger identity for each class.
I just hope archers are not as over-the-top as dualwield rogues, so I can actually play as such. Then again, what you call "visual flair" I call "facepalm bait". Different strokes for different tastes, I guess.
I have DA2 on pre-order, but one of my fears is that they're going to turn melee combat into circus crap.

I have a kind of geeky question to ask though. I couldn't understand how dwarves are related to the Byzantine Empire, so I hope if you read this Mr. Gaider to analyze this a little more. For me the dwarves were more "Romans" than "Byzantine". Theocracy was the main trademark of the Byzantine Empire and in some ways I think that Tevinter or the Qunari are more close to this.
I meant their politics are byzantine as in "characterized by elaborate scheming and intrigue" -- not that they resembled the Byzantine Empire in any other fashion.
I read that part but I think that scheming and intrigue was typical and without originality to every empire back then. I hoped for a more unique similarity, but I get your point. Thanks for the quick reply.
"A term describing any system that has so many labyrinthine internal interconnections that it would be impossible to simplify by separation into loosely coupled or linked components.
The city of Byzantium, later renamed Constantinople and then Istanbul, and the Byzantine Empire were vitiated by a bureaucratic overelaboration bordering on lunacy: quadruple banked agencies, dozens or even scores of superfluous levels and officials with high flown titles unrelated to their actual function, if any.
Access to the Emperor and his council was controlled by powerful and inscrutable eunuchs and by rival sports factions." -- Edward Gibbon, "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire"

With EA, it's likely that no clothes come off.
Either way, I'm hoping that DA2 goes the route of ME and not ME2, in terms of the depth and maturity of the scenes. In ME, the consumation scene seemed intended to convey something about the relationship. In ME2, the consumation scenes appear intended to titilate 14-year-old boys.

In another thread some time ago people were commenting how Vespasian was a funny/silly name. Apparently Roman empire is not part of primary education everywhere as one might think.

Not sure who is implied as NOT "the rest of us" in that statement, me or EA or...
If you mean me, well, I don't care that much about the nudity level or what's shown vs what's implied.
Look at my example -- ME had more skin showing than ME2. It's not about the skin. It's about the intent and content of the scenes. ME2 was far tamer in terms of nudity, but some of the scenes were just... juvenille.
