What if one of those scripted events involves closing off a possible quest line because one of your companions could do them the same favor they might have asked of you?
i guess it's more along the lines of this:
hawke: aveline, i need some documents (a key/quest item)...problem is, these are only given to city guard captains. i'd like to keep this under wraps and i need someone i can trust for this.
aveline: ....i'll see what i can do.
*upon receiving the item, the quest starts/continues/ends*

You need not worry. Based on the description, it's just a form of more elaborated party banter.IanPolaris wrote...
At the risk of raising everyone's ire, what Filaminstral is saying is a valid concern and I share it. I remember all too well the hype surrounding MOO III and how by having the computer AI be able to handle all the "little" decisions, it would revolutionize Turn by Turn tatical computer war games.
As we know, MOO III was an unmitigated disaster that was too complicated to play properly but at the same time too easy (because you could win just by hitting the turn key a hundred times). I am seeing shades of that here and I hope and pray I am wrong.-Polaris

I like the idea of the characters independently having their own plans and lives within the city. Rather than hanging out at a camp with their lives subordinate to your main quest.
The time shifts means there is potential to show the change in their lives across the different time periods. And it allows them to reflect on how things may have not turned out how they hoped.
It sounds exciting. The structure may allow the devs to do things they were unable to do in earlier Bioware games.

I think this will give a lot more depth to the characters and make the game feel more real
I like it

But different teams, different strokes. After all, companions in ME1 / ME 2 were basically a second power use on a different cooldown.

My big concern- that the interviewer thought wrex was the most interesting/memorable character from me!?! Lol

Now even more pumped. Having squad characters doing things instead of standing around waiting for you to do stuff is what I've been crying out for since..well..forever.
*tear* I am so looking forward to this.

I hope this is the case. Otherwise it might be as boring as ACB's missions.

Not as if he had much competition in ME, everyone else was pretty flat and uninteresting as far as characterization goes. Ashley wasn't bad but the whole crazy religious anti-alien thing really put me off.

DG: With the first one, it was a silent protagonist: a Grey Warden that you can rename. The second one is Hawke. Would you want to pursue Hawk in the Dragon Age III, or will Dragon Age III be something totally different?
ML: I never rule anything out. Dragon Age III obviously is not confirmed, but on a philosophical level I like what Dragon Age II is saying to the players. It’s saying: this game is about the world. You’re not necessarily importing your character, because your character very likely might be dead from Origins? You’re not necessarily importing a corpse. What you are importing is the effect that they had. When you look at even something as fundamental as the naming, Dragon Age, which is literally 100 years of time in this world, (the Blessed Age was the one beforehand, just for the trivia buffs) it is essentially saying this is about how this world changes and evolves. This is what I find satisfying about Dragon Age II. Even if Hawke never made an appearance in it, it would be very easy to have Hawke’s role in the world have something that has repercussions in III.

That's true for any pejorative in an opinionated circle. You see this in the US with what they've managed to turn their political labels into.

Agreed. After all, in my country, being called conservative is like being labeled "pro-dictatorship fascist". The right wing party is proclaiming to be a "centre" party, to no avail. In Exile wrote...

I guess it's simply more obvious to me in this media due to its higher drift speed.

Funk yea... Mr. Gaider wasn't kidding when he said BW is interested in evolution. Finally companions are more like real people then some characters waiting for a psychiatrist waiting to talk to them
