Im really surprised you guys didnt include 1080i support for this game.
Im one of those ppl wid an older CRT HDTV's which only supports
1080i & 480p resolutions which is a very common problem for a lot of ppl .
But since , mass effect 2 for the ps3 supports only 720p , my tv naturally
downscales to 480p which is not even HD & il be frank it looks flatout ugly.
I was really looking forward to buying this game but this has honestly
turned me off. I'm really hoping you could include 1080i support for
the game in the future via a patch(its been done before :Burnout Paradise). Please guys there are alot of us
out there with this problem (http://community.us....message/1636549) &
im sure we would really be interested in buying the game if it got its much deserved 1080i support.
TO THE DEVELOPERS: Why no 1080i support for this game ????

To be fair mate, almost every tv on the market in the last 5 years supports 720p - as do 90% of all console games released.
Isn't it time you bought a decent tv?

I agree my TV maybe a little old , but the question is why would I wanna change my existing TV when it works perfectly fine. I am more than happy with performance of my current TV. All the games that do support 1080i look wonderful & there are quite a few those. So would it hurt if the developers added 1080i support for their games to be on the safe side especially since the ps3 doesnt automatically upscale 720p to 1080i like the xbox 360 does. Look at companies like Insomniac , all their games this generation except the resistance 1 have 1080i support keeping this in mind. Its
not like im asking for 1080p support or something.

Scaling support for almost any resolution is trivial with the XBox 360, as its GPU (Xenos) does this in hardware with no performance hit.
On the PS3, it's a lot more difficult. The PS3's GPU can only scale horizontally I believe, and only from certain resolutions. While it's possible to support scaling with no apparent performance loss on the PS3, such as is the case with Uncharted 2, this is not a feature of the SDK or hardware and has to be custom implemented in each game. 1080i is no easier to support than 1080p.
I'm not aware of any Unreal Engine-based games on the PS3 that do scaling to 1080i/p.
TL;DR: PS3 development is hard.

Hmm, you're quite right. It even lists Dragon Age: Origins as having 1080 support, ironically.

Obviously it seems the release of Mass Effect 2 (for ps3) was handled by a different team.

All missing the obvious answer here…
It comes down to the power of the console... no console currently available can play above 720p and keep full frame rates, full texture quality and full antialiasing techniques. The video hardware technology (tho only being DX9+ spec on both 360 and ps3) far surpasses the speed at which the system over all can cope polygon wise; heavy optimising would be needed not saying it can’t be done tho.
I think Wipeout HD is the ONLY game that has 1080p support, being in production longer and the Sony team having more resources, knowing more about the console obviously to better optimise the software.

Gran Turismo has 1080p?

Yep corrected, Wipeout and Grand Turismo are 1080p, from what I just read over 5 yrs in development hence my point.
Tho these two titles are nowhere near as complex.

No if it bothers you that a game doesn't support 1080p just buy a gaming PC! In all honesty 720p does not look that bad... Heck Mass Effect 2 is a very pretty game thanks for the hard work Bioware!

I'm with the OP. Not all of us are virgins with no families or expenses who can buy a new TV or $1200 gaming rig every other year. The bottom line is that the 360 scales any content to any resolution; the technical specs (how difficult it is for the PS3 to scale) don't really matter -- the PS3 should be able to do the same. It's a design flaw that it doesn't. But, Bioware should have nutted up and programmed the game to scale (as they did with DA: Origins, even though that port sucked). But there is always a pack of slavering fanboys ready to defend Sony & Bioware.

I wish I could go higher than 480p, but I have no money for a new High Definition TV. It is sad.

I just have the receiver of my surround sound system handle the upscaling, when I play any PS3 game now it's at 1080p. Looks terrific. As for the point of this thread though, I personally agree not only with this game, but in general that all PS3 and 360 games should be upscalable to 1080i. Whether it's Sony's fault or Unreal's, we should have the option of outputting to 1080i, if not p.

MLB The Show also can run natively in 1080p on the PS3.
