Yeah I know... it was disappointing that you had to go through all that trouble for Arl Eamon who REALLY isn't necessary to attack Loghain... in all do respect, you could have just set up the Landsmeet yourself.
Or just have Bann Tigan do it, his dialog indicates he was up to replacing Eamon and supporting you if the worst happened.
You know just quietly slit Eamon's throat while everyone's away... accidents happen right? Though Alistair would probably go beserk.

"This comatose man accidentially slit his throat while I sat next to him"?
I don't know, some people might get suspicious.

Too bad there isn't an option to pilfer the Urn and take it with you.
Yeah. Why can't we steal the ashes?

I went back to an earlier save to sort of cheat to get the reaver specialization and I only JUST managed to bring myself to despoil the ashes, even though the only reason I was even there in the first place was to do just that. BioWare really did an amazing job with the writing of this game. My mage originally started as a selfish character but I found her developing into more of a helpful, considerate person after she left the circle tower and was exposed to all the troubles and suffering in the world even though I had made a concious decision to make her selfish and forsaw no changes to that nature.
I freaking love this game.
Almost the opposite here, I started out evil impared and noticed that I was becoming more ruthless by the minute, though I still found it exceedingly difficult to bring myself to defile the ashes for the Reaver.

Maybe the ashes are such powerful healing items that they cure the Grey Warden taint in you and Alistair if you had enough exposure to them.
In which case the archdemon couldn't be defeated and Ferelden is screwed.
Probably not the case, but an interesting thought, no?

"Well I was just helping Eamon.. uh.. shave, you see. Trim that big ol' beard of his a little, then there was an earthquake and my hand slipped on the razor and.... yes, there was an earthquake. Of course you didn't feel it, it was a very small earthquake.. localised entirely within the Arl's bed chamber in fact. Most unfortunate."
Ah, OK, that sounds reasonable enough, you could also improve that story by ordering Oghren to fart, or telling Shale that there's a pigeon in the room when you do the deed.

In that case I propose we start an experiment by stuffing the urn down the damn things throat, either it chokes on it or it heals.immeyourenot wrote...

The point is, I can't remember a game where I actually felt guilty in real life for what I've done in game. I'm also an atheist, but it got me to thinking, "what if that was like, The Shroud of Turin?" It wouldn't mean much to me, but my decision to taint such an artifact would affect millions of people.
That was my comparison exactly. I did it once for the specialization and the achievement and never have done it since

That's the route that my mostly knightly character took, though how knightly it is to lie to the cultist about doing what he wants is up for questioning, I suppose. Call it crafty. :-P

Everytime since i have preserved the ashes because 1. It's not my place to decide their fate and 2. because Kolgrim really does a good job of seeming like a crazy cult leader that will eventually create some kind of dictatorship and torture many people.
To me, the whole storyline seems to be mankind repeating it's mistakes. The Tevinter Magister Lords decided to worship High Dragons because they couldn't handle a God who didn't show his power and look how that ended. 5 Blights to date and countless lives lost.
Awesome storyline.

It is an age where magic is feared and accepted and there is no proof that these ashes are any more holy than they may be enchanted.
That said, I liked the Guardian a lot and always save the ashes. I did kill Genevivi the first time, and frankly, despite his best intentions for sharing, I still dont think that ultimately doing so was worse than commercializing it... but i digress..

I honestly wish that was possible. Would have been more fitting for a ruthless/pragmatic approach ("I have a Blight to stop, I don't have time to go running around looking for a dust bin that may or may not exist that may or may not heal a sick man!") than defiling the ashes. That choice came across as more chaotic stupid or stupid evil than anything else. The Angry One wrote...
