They should have developed or licensed a new graphics engine. Instead they tried to avoid this by adopting a new "art style" that nobody cares about. Whether the content itself will feel rushed or not is impossible to say. It will be a shorter game, but we knew that when they announced a voiced protagonist. On a positive note, games with outdated graphics can still be very successful, as Fallout New Vegas has shown. They won't get away with using that crappy graphics engine in DA3 though.
I like the new artstyle.

They're still on crunch. I remember reading in an interview with one of Bioware's developers that the time from content lock to release is around eight to twelve weeks. They're already off schedule if we are to follow that guideline, so at this point I fear more a delay than a rushed product.
How are they off schedule exactly?

I don't think they rushed it though, they've probably tested it and everything. As long as it's not a Fable III or Fallout: New Vegas which were full of game killing bugs - then you'll know DA2 wasn't rushed unless it takes one hour to finish.
However, considering the game takes place over 10 years compared to Origin's 1 year or so - you'd expect there to be many many quests that would give you more hours of gameplay than Origins...

It won't be delayed. March 8th is the street date. I believe actually the game is finished as of this point, content wise, they're merely ironing out all of the bugs until they go gold, which should be soon.

Not neccessarily its framed narrative so they can skip all those points where the PC is just picking his nose or out farming bear pelts.

From today 'til release there are six and a half weeks. One on march, the four of february, and the last week of January (which starts in three days). I'll try to dig up the interview where the time from content lock to release is mentioned (the bulk of the short interview was about day one DLC), and is told to be eight to twelve weeks. They're already a week and a half off schedule, unless they have a shorter lock-release interval this time around.Phoenixblight wrote...

Huh. I thought New Vegas graphics were fairly recent.Amyntas wrote...

You do know that content lock means the stuff on the disc or the actual game? DLC is not part of the content lock.

But they could have made more story driven side quests during those periods.

Obviously we won't be able to tell if it's a good stable release or a buggy mess until release... but my guess is it will be somewhere between Awakening and DA:O in terms of polished. A bit rushed, but not the mess that was awakening.

Well to be fair, the devs said awakening wasn't rushed... and people defended it much like they're defending DA2 now... but Awakening turned out to be very clearly rushed.

Not sure where you are getting at I had no issues with Awakening exc ept once it had crashed because I was playing for 12 hours straight.

Sigh... listen... just because YOU didn't have any bugs doesn't mean it wasn't common place. That attitude is getting kinda annoying and is way to common place on these forums. Upon release everyone from critics to gamers were bashing the hell out of Awakening for being so damn buggy.
I was surprised at the overwhelming amount of people who had it crashing left and right. I know the game crashed four times on my bro's 360... and thats on a console... PC's encounter much more problems than the 360 simply because they could be set up in so many ways.
Just go to google and search "Awakening Buggy".
And keep in mind, buggy doesn't refer to just crashing, it refers to stuff like characters who should be dead and who shouldn't be in your character transfer... being very much alive. A fairly common problem.
It may have been patched up sense, I know DA:O's patches quickly fixed the bugs I encountered in DA:O. But on my bros 360 we both encountered some major annoyances.
ANd I guess I'm also refering to stupid rushed things like your character being nakid because DLC stuff didn't transfer along with him/her.

Wait, are we actually going to call Awakening the Pinnacle of DLC developement that's free of any bugs and balance issues and totally worth its $29.99 price tag? Not that I didn't enjoy Awakening, but it suuuure has its fair share of problems.
