To add to your point, Xewaka, Ray (or was it Greg) mentioned earlier (via twitter I believed) that he just finished a full playthrough of DA2. It's reasonable that the game is finished, re: content.

It was Ray Mizuka.
However, the point you raise does bring a thing to mind: The QA team might be in crunch mode readying a release patch, in case it is needed.

Here's my source. It states rather clearly that there are eight-to-twelve weeks in which content cannot be added to the disk for it is already under proccessing. Relevant bit:
"That gives us a period of 8 to 12 weeks where we can make content, but we can't put it onto the disc because it's already out there. But we can insert it digitally, day one."

Would you care to share your source as to why am I mistaken?

Well if they do that, then fair enough, but.. that's the longest period of gold I've ever heard of, it's pretty much standard that it hits around a month before release. You could check lots of games if they even make this public to verify this.. but my sources are from the guy that was art director on Motorstorm, and has worked on various projects who's my tutor at uni, and from my own knowledge and research bearing in mind I'm a few months before mercilessly inundating HR people from studios around the world with my CV hoping for a job.

Of course studios do operate differently from each other but, just from what I've come across this seems to be something that's pretty much shared by all studios. sending it for gold months prior to release is just a bit of a waste of time.

By the time dragon age 2 releases, it will have been in development for less then a year and a half. Most major releases take 2-3 in development...so I pose the question to you all. Do you think DA2 has been rushed?

is this really true?? less than a year? i don't think so....

some things to think about;

drawing boards were up about this game before DA:O was released, probably around August 2009 and they are using the same engine from the last game.

I tried the combat system at Comic Con in July 2010 and the combat itself looked and felt complete then. Im no magician at the math but Im pretty sure this all equals more than a year in development, on top of that, the game is not made from scratch.

No it doesn't. MAss Effect 1 and 2, Dragon AGe: Origins, Cataclysm, Fallout New Vegas. All went gold within a month or even weeks before release.

No he was right, it didn't go gold untill october 23 *google it for a ton of sources*

But thats diffrent than being finished... which I suppose is what he meant *it was "finished" a while before going gold, the devs really did have months of time between finishing and release.

I think you mean all the DLC and DLC bugs.

I don't know anything about designing software, but wouldn't you start working on a patch only after content is fully locked down? At this point, they can still QA the main game itself.

retail game QA =/= DLC QA

contenct that qould not pass QA by release date can be made into day 1 DLC and pass the much looser QA that is given to DLC

My original post in this thread meant to indicate that the fact that part of the team was still in crunch mode was indicative of a delayed schedule. However, after reading your punctualization (about ray playing the locked-content version), it occurred to me that the part of the team that is in crunch mode is the part in charge of QA for an early patch release. As in, the game's been locked an in shipment, but parts of the team is still working on the locked product for early patches.

preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettty sure I saw somewhere that DA2 was being worked on around the same time DAO was.  Had you simply done some research on the topic you'd have dug up at least something and we could have avoided this whole discussion for the 8173409812374082137408213740821374 th time.  Point is, dont always assume that the sequel is being worked on AFTER the first game is FINISHED.

Rushed - not enough time taken to make the item top quality.
