Sometimes I wonder if people seriously think devs launch the game then spend half a year having parties and drinking cocktails and then say.... "Well this was fun... how about we make DA2 now."

Indeed, I would not be surprised if they are halfway through developing DA3 already.
People make silly assumptions without having the faintest clue about what goes on behind the scenes.

Unfortunately for the first time in biowares history i think they are trying to farm us with a terribly rushed game..7 gigs no matter the ungodly compression techniques theyve invented is not enough for an rpg.period.even the fact that this is going to be as long as me 2 is not reassuring.ME 2 was a hybrid between shooter, action and rpg genre and it was a great game.but hell dragon age is a fantasy rpg and it needs to last longer than that

8.5GB and that was before the enhanced edition with all its new content. Go cry somewhere else.

My original post in this thread meant to indicate that the fact that part of the team was still in crunch mode was indicative of a delayed schedule. However, after reading your punctualization (about ray playing the locked-content version), it occurred to me that the part of the team that is in crunch mode is the part in charge of QA for an early patch release. As in, the game's been locked an in shipment, but parts of the team is still working on the locked product for early patches.

I was under the impression crunch time included QA. As in bug-fixing and not designing content is what is such a time demanding enterprise. I never got the impression Bioware took QA lightly and would ease up on the workload.

No.

Da II was in serious development long before DA: Origins was released.

Would suprise me with how well they did with Mass Effect 2. Most of the bugs in DAO were in the engine and the only way to fix those are huge patches (which you really can't do that with Xbox restriction on the size of patches) or when creating the sequel go over the engine and clean up the engine. Which from what I have read is what they have done. I am not saying there won't be bugs but it shouldn't be as bad as DAO.

BUT, while ME2 had many many changes from the the first game, DA2 has about 10X more. They are dramatically changing the game, from graphics to gameplay, we're talking major rehaul. Me2's changes in comprison we're pretty minor. I would imagine that makes it far more difficult and a diffrent story alltogether.

If devs had their way, their game would never actually come out.. there's always 1 more thing they want to change / improve or add to the game... it's a vicious cycle that can go on forever... without proper oversight / pressure (usually by the publisher which are generally maligned by gamers), their games would have endless development cycles.

The Wachowski brothers released The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolution 6 months apart. Does that mean they only spent 6 months working on The Matrix Revolution.

The three Lord of the Rings movies were also released one year after the previous.

Why?

Why do anyone asked that stupid question? I mean it was revealed that DA2 was being worked on BEFORE Origins was finished.

It's just...wow...I'm just don't know what to say.

That is a terrible comparison...

All your examples are movies that are made at that same time... DA2 and DA:O were not made at the same time...

*facepalm* nobody is crying, he is just pointing out that DA2 compared to Origins is less than half the size...

That could mean that a month before DAO was released they started working on DA2, do you have any evidence that they were working on this game LONG before DAO came out?

It was pointed out in earlier threads when this issue popped up. The explanation provided was that while DAO installation is considerably larger (20 gb or so if i recall right) large part of this size difference comes as result of DA2 shipping with fewer language versions, plus the environments supposedly indeed compress much better for whatever reasons.

Of course not... the engine is similar or the same, the background follows, a lot of characters exist... the huge has already been done in DA:O. so everything they needed they took it here. modify graphs, new story, changing the classes quite a bit and we a new game !

DA1.5, maybe yes maybe not. depends of point of view. rushed ? really not.

They had to redesign all the gameplay systems to make them faster and more reactive, renovate the art style, and redesign the races and monsters, come up with a new story which spans 10 years, write over 30,000 lines, make up new locations and characters, and design a whole new dialouge system.

That's a lot. Especially since DA2's real development didn't kick in until after Awakening was released.

Quite frankly i am a disapointed with DA2. Recycled levels. Way too simple graphics. i'm roughly six hours in and bored out my mind. Game was seriously rushed. Making you go back to the same levels over and over is a clear indication of trying to prolong the game with repetiveness. I will stick it through till the end but i will no longer support an EA game and if i do, it'll be a bargain bin at $20.

No.

Next question? :)

So the repeated levels were intentional. Good to know.

It has been rushed. And Bioware has not failed to deliver a great game under that pressure.

The game is not quality when compared to BioWares other titles.

DA:II cannot stand with BGII, KOTOR, DA:O, ME, ME2 etc.
