Why is rewriting heretic geth a paragon decision?

It was an extremely hard decision for me, and when I picked rewriting I almost felt cheated to get paragon points. This was a perfect opportunity to have a morally ambiguous decision and it's brought down to good and bad. Nearly ruined the experience for me, they could have had both decisions give Renegade points so it was a choice based on personal morals and ideals rather than Good/Bad points.

If i remember correctly they don't just kill the heretic geth, but assimulate them into the geth network. All the experiences and logic the heretic geth had (except what the reapers did to them to make them heretical) would be put into the regular geth network. Its almost like having a vital program infected with a virus, scrubing the virus, returning it to normal, but preserving any programs, data, etc that happened in the time period the virus had infected. There is also a chance the virus was not completley scrubbed.

Yeah both those choices were no paragon, just a screwed up thing BW does they do a ren thing then just auto name the second choice para. The only para solution would've been leave them alone and then blow up the geth they send out to attack people but even that would never really chop the head off the snake you'd only be putting up road blocks.

I think they should have given four options where you could get renegade or paragon points for either outcome depending on the reasons for it. Something like:
Blowing up base:
"Brainwashing is wrong" (for paragon points) or "We shouldn't take any risks" (for renegade points)
Reprogramming:
"Killing is wrong" (for paragon points) or "They could be a powerful tool in the future" (for renegade points)
Blowing up base:
"Brainwashing is wrong" (for paragon points) or "We shouldn't take any risks" (for renegade points)
Reprogramming:
"Killing is wrong" (for paragon points) or "They could be a powerful tool in the future" (for renegade points)

Because you don't exterminate thousands of sapient beings when there's an other way to stop them from making harm to your species.
On the other hand... brainwashing? I really think both the options are Renegade there.

It's Paragon because it doesn't involve killing them. Really. It's that simple.
Pretty much this. One ends in death, the other ends in a changed life.
I still think the more humane thing would be to kill them all in a quick and painless explosion. However, that isn't why I destroy the base. Legion, thoughout the level, describes its ignorance of how rewriting would affect the Heretics, how their reintroduction would affect its Geth, and how there is a non-zero probability of error.
To me, that's too risky. It jeopardizes a new, extremely powerful ally for the sake of less than 5% of the whole. That math just doesn't add up.

Lol I can’t blow up the base of those I’m at war with and have already killed thousands off because "killing is wrong!"
*cough* anyway I get your point, mass effect could benefit from a few situations like that, right now when ever you pick the par or ren option you only have one way of your shep justifying it tho I still think it would be better to just ditch the whole system.
