How would you handle a Jacob/Thane Confrontation?

Okay, so one of the major topics when it comes to Jacob is how he was uncharacteristically rude towards Thane during his introduction aboard the ship. Save for Legion (which was a lot more understandable), Jacob didn't voice any grievances with any other crew member. His explained reasons was that he didn't like Mercs or Assassins. The popular theory is that there was suppose to be confrontation between the two to expand on why Jacob had a problem with Thane's profession. So, what do you think would've served as a feasible confrontation between the two?

"He's an assassin!"
"And technically you're a terrorist."
"So now it's about me, Shepard?"
"No, it's about the team... we need both of you. And I know you're both smart enough to understand this."
"Shepard's right, Taylor. I'm not used to be part of a team... I understand that can be... difficult... working with me. But I'm not here to stab you on your back."
"We'll see it, drell. But for now... truce."
Renegade.
Something like the confrontation with Tali and Legion, so "Solve it as you want, just don't you dare cross my way!".

I like that. I think Jacob would call him Krios instead of "Drell" though.

Still, I'm not really seeing the confrontation. Jacob might be suspicious, but he and Thane are both professionals, and two of the most even-keeled party members you get. I doubt either of them would say anything at all.

But Jacob really doesn't have room to talk about anyone else's profession, when he's working for Cerberus.

Jacob's father abandoned him, even before the ship he served on disappeared. Thane's loyalty mission, even if successful, could bring up unresolved issues for Jacob, which would add to any problems he already had with Thane.

thats a good point

A better opponent for Thane might be Samara, but in a sense the two of them are quite similar as well (hanar necessity vs. asari code). Puzzling!
I rather like this. Good job.Alienmorph wrote...

Jacob, you've got to work with Thane. being an assasin is part of his culture and I won't have you starting trouble because of the incident with the council. Thane's different and he's going to ahve your back.
Neutral
Thane Jacob's been attacked by Assassins before, you've gotta understand his worries.

Confrontations IMO are less dependent on the worldview and more dependent on the professionalism of the individuals in question. Miranda and Jack's confrontation was inevitable--Miranda's usually pretty professional, but Jack is exactly the type of person who wouldn't give a crap about decorum and get under her skin. Same with Tali and Legion--there's a world of history there that no amount of discipline can overcome.
I would've liked to see the Grunt and Mordin confrontation play out--there's still unused dialogue for it. But alas. Snipped.

It does seem likely that this could be why he's suspicious of Thane. It seemed like there was some unexplained stuff regarding his reaction.Sable Rhapsody wrote...
I keep wondering if Jacob's run afoul of assassins in the past. It's not like everyone else are paragons of virtue--Shep's a rogue Spectre, Garrus is a vigilante, Jack is f-ing crazy, etc.

As for a confrontation, I would probably have to take Thane's side, mainly because Jacob was judging him based on his own preconceived notions, and not really being entirely logical.

Now that I think about it, you're absolutely right. Thane and Samara are both too controlled and professional to have a confrontation in the manner of some other squadmates.Sable Rhapsody wrote...

For that matter, Jacob seems to make a habit of not being especially riled by issues you'd expect to upset him emotionally - I'm thinking especially of the aftermath of Aeia - so he might not feel the need for a confrontation either.
I have listened to the audio and would have liked to see this too.Sable Rhapsody wrote...

Jacob: "No I'm not. A terrorist is a radical who employs terror as a political weapon. Terrorism is the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear.
I have done no such things.
Yes Cerberus has political motivations and yes Cerberus has done some terrible things, but this does not mean we are 'terrorists'.
We are a secret organisation and everything we do is out of and unknown to the public eye, thus we are not terrorists.
Read a dictionary once in a while Commander.
Shepard: But you said -
Jacob: But nothing, good day to you sir.

I'd remind Jacob that he's a mercenary. Unless he's a true believer, he's selling his skills to Cerberus. I'm not sure what would drive the conflict from Thane's point of view though - unless he'd simply defend himself from Jacob's verbal attack? He seems more like the type to walk away and be Zen about it.
