Genlocks are rare enemys now, like Shriks. And the look like half Ape, half Bronto. The most common has been the most rare.DarthCaine wrote...
So, they didn't bother making Genlocks?
I must say, I really have trouble with the new Darkspawn design lorewise. I haven't complained about anything in Dragon Age II but I'm just having big problems with this.

Really? Lorewise, it now makes more sense. They are affected with the same disease, they look far more similar to their previous forms than they ever did.
I think, if I have a major issue, is that each model looks too similar. They look very distinctive, so they all look identical because they are identical. The DAO darkspawn are all kind of muddy and generic, so they blend together. These darkspawn have obvious silhouettes and contrasting textures, making them look much closer to one another. So it's more jarring to look at a pack of them.

ok:
1- This thread might have started 2 hours ago but people have been asking about genlocks for months and that is what I was referring to as "silence"
2- the devs do not fear us...but...the marketing and branding have every intention, usually, to keep anything that may be upsetting for us as hushed up as possible. Case in point? ME1's unrealized individual squad command and interrupts, ME2's lack of ANY meaningful party customizationaside for Shepard and so on (yes questions were asked and were always dodged by the devs while we were left to figure it out at release).
3- the devs owe us nothing, that is true...but witholding details does not help them either does it?

*looks at ogres and shrieks*
I'd say that it isn't that far-fetched given the existing lore.

Looks way better than the clowns we are facing now.
It looks like a muddy-faced zombie-orc-demon-monster thing. Nothing interesting, nothing frightening. In terms of lore, it make less sense than the new design.
Nothing wrong with muddy-faced zombie-orc-demon-monster's.
None of this is frightening so that is kind of beside the point, any grown adult getting scared by Dragon age needs some serious help.
on another point, i just think saying they look silly is... well silly but alright, what about Redcliffe, was that scary?

The thing is, lorewise, Darkspawn are supposed to look like Mudspawn, not like SkeletorspawnSaibh wrote...

Says? If you're talking about literal descriptions, I imagine those descriptions were based off of the artist's design of the old darkspawn, which were designed just to look like horde monsters. If they could have changed it, they would.
If the darkspawn took off their widow's peak cowl thing, they'd look closer to the Mudspawn anyway. There was this screenshot awhile ago of the Skeletorspawn with their face textures updated, and they looked fantastic.

Haha clowns was probably the wrong choice of words as clowns are way scarier than the new darkspawn, or the old darkspwan for that matter or most things ever. Watching IT as a young one was one of my most traumatic moments, those nightmares wont be forgotten.
The only game i've played that really scared me was Amnesia the Dark Descent, that was a **** your pants type of experience.

Also, how can you tell ogres look cartoonish? They look exactly the same to me, or is there another picture of them?

To me, it's not lore unless there's a particular reason why they must look that way. If they're just being described, well, that was how they looked. It's just their physical appearance.

That we can agree on, amnesia is so ****ing scary, Which reminds me what the hell has happend to horror-games during the decade, you slap something that would only happen if Glenn Beck mated with a goat in a game and suddently its a horror game, no suspense, no mystery, no sitting the corner with a butter knife waiting for the bad men to go away.kingjezza wrote...

uh.....Videogames are a visual media Saibh. It's not a vague description but a full visual render....hell look at the emissaries, they are now twice the height of a hurlock, that's not just a descriptive change
I just don't consider their appearances to be that critical to their lore. I think the new design has consolidated them a tad better.
Anyhow.

This texture looks much better.
