Hey!... Who ever said clowns aren't scary as **** needs some one on one time with Mr. King.
on another point, i just think saying they look silly is... well silly but alright, what about Redcliffe, was that scary?

Haha clowns was probably the wrong choice of words as clowns are way scarier than the new darkspawn, or the old darkspwan for that matter or most things ever. Watching IT as a young one was one of my most traumatic moments, those nightmares wont be forgotten.

The only game i've played that really scared me was Amnesia the Dark Descent, that was a **** your pants type of experience.

That we can agree on, amnesia is so ****ing scary, Which reminds me what the hell has happend to horror-games during the decade, you slap something that would only happen if Glenn Beck mated with a goat in a game and suddently its a horror game, no suspense, no mystery, no sitting the corner with a butter knife waiting for the bad men to go away.

I can only play Amnesia in 30 minute spells, haha wuss.

Horror games are now really just action games with monsters, suspense removed for the sake of action. I remember playing the first Resident Evil and being scared ****less, maybe it's just a case of me getting old.

I just don't consider their appearances to be that critical to their lore. I think the new design has consolidated them a tad better.

Anyhow.

This texture looks much better.

wow that does look a lot better

meh I'm not concerned about that. If those are PC screens graphic quality cannot be evaluated because we do not know what settings it was on.

if they are console screens, all console screens are takenat 720p unless the game is native 1080p (which is not our case), those screens are WAY larger than 720p so obviously they would look ugly. Furthermore we have seen several screens with much MMMUUUUCH better textures

Really liking the armour on the person attacking Hawke in the first shot. Seriously, I want that badly for my Hawke. (Probably can't get it, but do want.)

Some of the textures seem quite low-res and grainy, though. This is something I don't really understand. Perhaps someone with a better understanding could correct me, but I thought it was generally preferable to go for a high-detail texture over a high-detail model, if one has to make a choice of only one of the two. A high-res texture can make even a low-poly model look relatively good. A low-res texture, however, can make a high-poly model look terrible. Am I alone in finding this?

after seeing that pic with the darkspawn, ive come to like the new look even more. They look more deadly, not goonish like the ones in origins.

And the emissaries are sweet. I wonder and hope they actually use 'darker' spells, as lore etc states there abilities are similar to blood magic.

Hm. So the Architect was not just a weird one-off, rather a precursor to the new emissary look.

It sounds from the article like enemies are getting more sophisticated tactics, like heal ability and magic buffs.

Aligned correctly, and altered the contrast and brightness a bit (although, since it's of a photograph on a screen, I'm not skilled enough to make it look in-game).

Is there an Amnesia thread round here someplace as this probably isn't the right place to discuss it but totally agree, never has walking down a corridor been so scary and such a daunting task.

Back on topic, they look better in the screenie Saibh posted, I still prefer the old look but I can live with that.

Narrative through game mechanics, when all you can do is run the, game becomes relevant to our instincts, I dont think its age more of a action fad thing (hopefully it passes) i really liked that Bioware tried to do scary, it just didn't work, rember going through it with Chris, all you had was four slots a knife and a healthbottleImage IPB, and the turning around, oh my god... You thought hey, these zombies are slowas ****, then you'd turn around and it was like tsssk, tsssk, tsssk(zombie eating you,seriously..it sounds like that)

Says Dragon Age: The Calling. The pretty much retconned a lot of stuff with the new art style

To me, it's not lore unless there's a particular reason why they must look that way. If they're just being described, well, that was how they looked. It's just their physical appearance.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I don't want to get into another whole retcon debate, but I don't get how you can't classify the appearence of something created and established by the writers as "lore". That would be the established appearence would it not?

I highly doubt that's a gameplay scene and I still hate the look of the new Darkspawn. They look like Goblins. They look even MORE generic, because of the lack of variance. Say what you will about the DA:O ones, but there was more than one type of each type of Darkspawn.

I hope that Dragon Age Legends pic isn't really a Genlock either. Seriously, what the ****. Can't be Dwarves anymore if that them, look like bronto/ogre mixes.

Though I suppose, either way, dealin' with it.

the pics look awful because they are being stretched from their small original article size.

The cut-scenes aren't CGI, it is the same models as the game. Unless you mean that they made a trailer with that hasn't been shown.

Edit: Well, apart from the tapestry thing.

You guies gotta be high, those graphics are great ! Did you see the number of Darkspawn ? Would you have prefered better graphics with less Darkspawn and no party ? I'm sure it looks great in movement (this is a game, it has to be played ; I remember pausing whenever there was a finishing move in Origins and rotating the camera because it looked beautiful ; when I watched the screenshots later, it wouldn't look as good, but who cares about screenshots ?)

Hope we can wear those helmets in the first screen ! Have ogres' heads shrunk ? They look taller than before but with mean little derpy heads now !

To me, if it's important that all darkspawn have dreadlocks, because that's where they store taintjuice, I'd be outraged if their dreadlocks were retconned/removed. There's a lore reason for them to look like that. That's one reason.

The second is that the darkspawn are a new creation, and aren't settled into my mind the way elves and dwarves are. They sort of felt ambiguous to begin with, just a mishmash of "monster", and I never attached feelings to their appearance. They had no identity.

The way I see it, the original concept of the darkspawn was a bit of a miss, and one they're trying to rectify.

I don't get one thing about the new Emissary look: the height. I remember devs saying they changed the barkspawn to look more like mutated Thedas species since they didn't do so in DAO. This new info-- oh I dunno-- strongly contradicts that.

Then again it was probably just my imagination. Makes me wonder though... what else have I been lied about.

Then again I may be exaggerating. Then again I may be very pissed at this moment.

Any picture taken off-screen will looks way better than as if you were looking at it real time or a PC screenshot.

Also 2x AA helps a bit
