I have the original Baldur's Gate (without TOSC) and have run into a problem.  I'm in Baldur's Gate Southeast Section (AREA 0900) and I can't get the party to exit the area or to enter any buildings.  I have reinstalled but continue to get the same problem.  I can't find any reference to this on any of the remaining support forums.

I can teleport to another area using the Cheats=1 MoveToArea command, but I still can't enter buildings.  I started a new game to see if it was a problem with my save file but I'm having the same problem with the new game as well.  I can open doors and open chests, but the party never seems to enter a building or exit an area.   Any ideas?

Have you got the 1.1.4315 patch installed (should be something like a patch readme in the game directory if so)?

I can't see anything specific for this in the readme but it's worth trying.

Yes, I do. It's really weird. I can open chests and doors and have conversations with characters, but can't enter any buildings or exit the current area.

Have you tried clearing your cache or temp folders in the BG folder? Not the folders themselves, but the tempsaves that are in them? Sometimes this helps.

Silly question - can all of your party move or is one of them some distance away from the others, perhaps unable to move by being encumbered or charmed etc. Everybody needs to be under control and close to a door/area transition for it to work.

aries1001, I have one .SAV file in the save directory and none in the temp directory. How are tempsave files named?

Gate70, all the members are together and unemcumbered. The reason I think this is config related because I started a new game with a new install and can't even enter buildings with a party of only the main character in Candlekeep.

hmm, clutching straws. If you've got Vista/Windows 7 and installed to the default directory you could try uninstalling & selecting a less protected directory such as c:\\games instead of program files.

The only other thing I notice is that the directx patch (found at sorcerers.net) specifically mentions this version of the game and a vague "seem" as below that indicates it may be worth trying to see if it makes any difference.

"This bug did not seem to affect hosting a game, single player or using other connections like IPX. Only install this patch if you are using DirectX 7.0 (or higher), and after installing the 1.1.4315 patch".
