oh, and insanity really makes you use certain squaddies during missions.

for example, you never want to use jacob or jack ever. kasumi and miranda come through in the clutch, and it really makes you like the characters more, because you actually appreciate what they bring to the table.

my insanity playthru was actually the first time i ever got with miranda.

I disagree.  Every squadmate has a use, even on Insanity.

I play on insanity, and only on insanity, because it makes more sense.

You are ALWAYS outnumbered, sometimes by advanced aliens. It shouldn't be a stroll.

Games are better when they harder. Case in point, the Gates of Hell mission for SC2, on Brutal. It was very epic.

They need to offer greater experience rewards with the harder difficulty settings, like Fallout 3 does.

It wouldn't make much difference.  You can get to max level fairly quickly in ME2.  And then there's NG+ to consider.

I enjoy Insanity. though im more likely to play the game on hardcore these days.

People who go on about insanity being leet, are right in one day, but cancel that out by being douchbags about it.

Singleplayer game, play it how you like, if it ever goes multiplayer, then us Insanity Players may have a +1 advantage.

Ok, I was thinking Insanity:

Infiltrator, Widow (should I go Warp Ammo or Dominate?)

or

Engineer, Attack Drone, AI hacking, Dominate [to make the battlefield less directed at me]

half joke, half truth. you obviously have to use them on their loyalty missions, but you do really get the feeling that some squadmates are just plain ol' better in most situations. if you are fighting enemies with barriers, for example, having someone with warp(and thane's warp ammo) is a godsend.
also, if you do the short assignment with all of the husks, you are gonna wanna bring certain people. here, shockwave would actually help out a lot. you are also going to want to use an individual whom you selected to change their power to affect more than one target, as opposed to just a stronger individual attack.
the game is just plain funner on insanity, imo. and this is coming from a guy that has never played challenging games growing up(harvest moon64 was my favorite game for years, lol).

personally, i'd go with warp ammo. i can't stand playing as an engineer, as you have to wait for your power, as opposed to you just getting 'er done.

I play insanity (and only insanity) because it's more challenging. If something is more challenging, you have to become more involved in order to clear the content. Being more involved means you're more immersed.

Bottom line is, insanity is not going to be for everyone, some people enjoy the extra challenge. Does that make the people that don't enjoy it that way casual ? No.
Personally I found that once I started playing on insanity, it became nearly impossible to play on any of the lower levels, because they didn't present much of a challenge anymore. But once again "not for everyone." :D

I will agree that Miranda outshines every other squadmate (except one).  I find the game more enjoyable on Insanity as well.  As another poster brought up, it isn't worth going on an ego trip about, though, as it's not as hard as the hardest difficulty levels in other games that feature similar combat.

Part of the fun of playing a game is the risk of losing, if there was no risk then I might as well read a book, watch a movie or engage in some other passive activity. I need that cerebral engagement, the need to formulate tactics, consider alternate approaches, test my reflexes, etc. There's no fun in just steamrolling through the opposition without any thought. Granted ME never rises to the level of  a real challenge, bt ME2 has its moments.

I find it's not even about the challenge, since Insanity just feels like normal difficulty to me. I only played on normal difficulty for 3/5ths of my first playthrough, then a bit of veteran and then full insanity to this day. That wasn't to say the last 2/5ths of my first playthrough weren't utterly annoying, especially since I only ever play Adept and refuse to use medigel or heavy weapons (don't know why and I still don't use them). After my second playthrough, learning how to take full advantage of cover and learning how to play my chosen class, the game became a breeze.

Because playing on insanity is fun? Steamrolling thru everything is boring. I don’t give a rats ass about achievements and I don’t need greater rewards as incentive. Insanity is a bit more challenging and is thus more fun for me to play. Simple.

Feeling that way after my first hardcore playthrough.

Might have a go at insanity one of these days.

I might try insanity... I wish there was an easy way to take a poll...

For Insanity:

Infiltrator (for the safety of long range and invisibility for escaping close encounters)

Engineer (for staying behind cover while spamming attack drone and dominate)

Sentinel (for turtling with armor, shotgun, warp, overload)

Actually, I'm looking forward to Insanity mode.

Normal has been way too easy.

Horizon was easy as ****.
So was the Collector base and all of the loyalty missions so far.

They need to make veteran the normal difficulty in ME3.

no, they don't.  different people play at different skill levels.  that's why there are so many to chose from.  I will bet you that I have harder time playing on veteran then some have playing on insanity.  but that's the beauty of single player games and being able to pick your difficulty level, it allows wide range of players to enjoy the game at their own pace, on their own terms.

I want to be rewarded for my skill, not for going from A to B. Undeserved reward = no satisfaction.

Try the strategy forum.  Most of the regulars only play on Insanity, and would be happy to help.  All classes are effective on Insanity, though some have a greater learning curve than others.  Vanguard, in particular, can take some getting used to.  If you're worried about it being too hard, try the class with which you are most comfortable.  The three suggestions you provided above would all work marvelously.

My first successful Insanity playthrough was an Infiltrator for the reasons you described.

They need some weapon or armor unlocks for every difficulty.

Or at least something along those lines.
