ME1-Actually the intro still gives me the chills. I just watched it again, and even with the sound on my husband's headphones, I had goosebumps.
ME2- The Rengade interrupt of the Wereloc Clanspeaker on Tuchanka. I play a Paragon and I still can't help but take that interrupt.

Yes! The intro is still amazing to me as well! I remember the first time I played Mass 1, I see my newly created Shepard strolling on the bridge, making his way for the cockpit...I was like, "Wow, nice cinematic!"

Then all of a sudden Joker and Kaidan are talking, then Joker turns to talk to you and the dialogue option shows up........Image IPB
I cannot tell you how amazed I was at that moment. I remember thinking, "I can actually interact with these characters?! With these graphics??!!!!"

Meeting Garrus and Wrex for the first time in the Citadel and the three misfits then raid Fist's bar.

A Merc, a Cop and a Soldier walk into a bar.... and all hell breaks loose!

Frankly my favorite moment in ME is to do that mission with the three most badass individuals in the galaxy.

Kaidan and Ashley.

It was really cool being with them in the first game. I have full faith that Bioware will do them justice in the third game. With this being the final installment, they'll tie everything together. It's going to be great! Imagine that epic cutscene where all of your companions are with you, and you all ride off into the unknown, facing the threat that started this whole epic conflict!Image IPB It...will...be...awesome.

AMEN!

For me, the beginning of ME1 where they put the music up, you just started the game and you are walking up to the cockpit, dodging crewmembers, and the camera goes up to your face... always gives me goosebumps!

And when you realize that you are going to have to choose between the 2 crewmembers (one I was flirting with) and all the stuff going on your head about "am I choosing this person for the right reason??".

And when Kaidan walked into my room before Ilos!

In ME2, the initial sequence when the Normandy blows up is spectacular. I was also scared and in awe when that HUGE skeletal reaper came up!

Seeing Wrex on Tuchanka again was AWSOME!

Not being lazy by simply quoting the first reply, but really that moment really did it. I would have never thought that you could care that way for a virtual character but that's what happened with Wrex.

I guess that unlike Garrus and Tali, the fact that we meet him later in the game kinda lets us in the expectative of seeing him and when comes the moment, Wrex pushing that idiot away and cutting him short to come to Shepard, that was a great moment. More than with any of the older team mates from ME1 (except Liara in LotSB) you feel a real bond between the two of them.

For me the best moment ever was when I first played mass effect 1 and realized that the dialogue wheel allowed me to converse and interact with characters in my own way. The fact that the dialogue wasn't crappy like a choose your own adventure book made it even more awesome! The dialogue wheel and the well written, voiced dialogue are the primary reason why mass effect is my favorite series ever

Getting the Normandy back in ME2... I just feel like I wanna cry or something, but I don't. It's like I don't realize how much I love that ship until I see that scene. Still hits me the same way every time I see it too.
In ME1 I'd have to go with stealing the Normandy at the end. Watching Anderson punch Udina. Then running up the side of the Citadel Tower. And using the Paragon Charm to make Saren shoot himself. My jaw dropped when that happened.
Reuniting with Garrus and Wrex in ME2 made me smile. Romancing Tali was great too.

Great idea for a thread! The amount of cynical threads on these boards are suffocating. Here's my happy memories:

Mass Effect:
1) My first landing on an uncharted world with the Mako and trolling around the moutains of Presrop with it. I'd heard from a friend that the the Mako would be impossible, but I was happily surprised that it wasn't, and feeling like a galactic explorer going boldly where no man has gone before was just a thrill.
2) Landing on the Moon for the Rogue VI mission and seeing Earth and the Sun. After all the far-flung uncharted worlds in strange solar systems, returning home was a wow-moment.
3) The Battle of the Citadel, all the way.

Mass Effect 2:
1) The friendships my Shepard was able to develop with the squad, especially Mordin, Samara, and Thane.
2) Shepard's Paragon speeches, especially his "I'm going to stop the Reapers, but I'm not going to sacrifice the soul of our species to do it" to the Illusive Man at the end.
3) Curb-stomping the Collectors and getting out with everyone alive, followed by a satisfying explosion.

I really loved the 'not gonna sacrifice the soul of my species ' quote as well. But also - my Shepard is a Paragade and in the same convo there's also the dialogue choice: "You can get in line or step aside... but DON'T get in my way". The two quotes together really defined my Shepard's character - an ethical badass. So great that Mass Effect 2 ended with that for me.

Also - taking command of the Normandy speech in ME1 (great, character defining moment) and the 'You owned your decision' section of Mordin's loyalty mission. The most morally complex and poignant writing in the game (IMO).

Nice thread.

Memorable moments?

ME1: Becoming a Spectre. Finding Tali. Finding the last damned Keeper. Wrex confrontation on Virmire. BDtS DLC. Surviving for 25 minutes in the other DLC and only stopping because I was bored. Saren Confrontation on Virmire. Finding the Last Dammned mineral deposit. Illos's ambient music and sounds. The Conduit. Awesome Space Battle.

ME2: OMG I DIED. Tali on freedoms progress. Kasumi's loyalty. Garrus' recruitment. Tali's recruitment. That side mission with the Quarian in it. That side mission where you turn on the massive shield of some kind. Recriting Thane. LOtSB. Collector ship and Reaper ship. The crew being taken. Everything from the initiation of the O4R mission onward (talimance, spacebattle, speach, the mission, the ending)

definatly the virmire mission realising that is a story and bioware are not afraid of killing off main characters.

when you first meet kasumi it was clever, miranda's loyalty mission realising she isnt heartless as she is percieved, all the bonus stuff from lotsb, the ending to project overlord for some reason it gets me more than any over moment that is emotional in the two games and i dont reall know why.

ME1: Game intro when you're walking through to joker and Nihlus and Kaidan.

ME1: Spectre induction.

ME1:The drive up to Peak 15 on Noveria. I love the landscape and music.

ME1: Landing on Virmire... so pretty, and I love killing Geth in the first game.

ME1: Final mission

ME2: The intro... seeing Shep die and the Normandy explode chokes me up ever time.

ME2: Seeing Anderson and Wrex again.

ME2: Seeing the new Normandy and having Joker back as the pilot!!!

ME2: Knowing that after those darn Collectors snatch Shep's crew, that she's completely ready to go through the Omega 4 relay and kick their arses and bring everbody back alive.

ME2: Fishtank in Shep's quarters... full o' awesome... and Boo too!

ME2: Illium and their advertisments. *lol*

ME2: Seeing and hearing about some of the decisions I made in the first game.

**HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD!!**

ME1:

- The intro. I've played it a million times, and it still gives me goosebumps.

- Spectre induction.

- I Remember Me, when playing a Colonist Shepard.

- Deciding the fate of the rachni queen.

- Virmire: speaking with Sovereign, making the choice, and the confrontation with Saren.

- Stealing the Normandy and Anderson punching Udina in the face. Perhaps not exactly epic, but oh so very deserved.

- The final confrontation with Saren.

- Joker dealing the killing blow to Sovereign.

- Shepard emerging from the wreckage.

ME2:

- Meeting Joker again, and the introduction of the new Normandy.

- Finding Garrus, and then seeing him almost die. I nearly panicked when I played it the first time.

- Going through Horizon desperately trying to find the (romanced) Virmire Survivor and finally meeting the him/her. I hate it, but it's damn effective in showing the things Shepard lost.

- Going through the Normandy's wreckage and remembering the people that were lost.

- Sharing a drink with Dr. Chakwas.

- Meeting Wrex. I love that damn lizard.

- Getting the message from the rachni queen.

- The following loyalty quests: Garrus, Tali, Mordin, Samara.

- Meeting Legion for the first time. Also, accepting him as a part of the team, and the discussion when he talks about the N7 chest plate.

- Romancing Garrus, because it's different from any other BioWare romance in the sense that there's already an established friendship and a foundation of trust and respect between him and Shepard, and the romance grows from that. (Perhaps Tali is the same way, but I haven't played her romance, so I don't know.)

- Most parts of the final mission: going through the relay, talking about strategy, choosing the right team members for the right assignments, seeing if your choices were the right ones, finding the lost crew members, the speech before the final assault, giving TIM the proverbial finger by blowing up the base, saving the falling crew member after fighting the god-awful human Reaper, running back to the ship, telling TIM to fall in line or get the hell out of the way.

- Getting to talk about personal stuff with Liara during LotSB.

ME:

- The sense of scale on the Citadel and the conversations with the elcor/volus ambassadors. So much awesome dialogue.

- The rachni queen

- The orb on Eletania - difficult to find and activate, but fascinating.

- The conversations with Sovereign on Virmire and Vigil on Ilos. Vigil especially was an amazingly "WOW" moment.

- If Shepard chose to save the Council, the cutscene where the commander of the Destiny Ascension realises that Alliance reinforcements are on their way. Heart-soaring and goosebumps doesn't begin to describe it.

ME2:

- The reconstruction of Shepard scene - something about the music just makes it memorable.

- The first meeting with the Illusive Man

- Samara's loyalty mission. Nef's apartment is very moving.

- The entirety of Lair of the Shadow Broker. I've rarely seen so much awesomeness in the same place. Really, if this sets the standard for ME3 it's going to be an amazing game.

I guess I'll just say that in general...the reason for why I decided to play the Mass Effect series...was because, well. It just had this major sense of epicness, originality, and...pure adventure. Not that overdone Hollywood version, but the kind that you read about, and only see in those really great movies. THAT, and the characters/story honestly is the best I have ever played/experienced.

I've never ever loved any video game characters more than the Mass Effect ones.

I'm going to remember this game forever.

Just remembered one of the WTF moments that was so awesome. ME1 convo with Fist. You end it and then Wrex shoots him in the head and you are like WTF WREX!

Wrex turns and said: WHAT? I told you when we find him I'll kill him.

Been fantastic reading through this thread - what's truly great is now everyone's Shepherd is unique to them. Some of my favourite moments:

ME1

Finding out who Sovereign truly was

First Thresher Maw (quick reload there!)

Benezia's redemption, just before she died - especially with Liara in party

Thinking I'd blown romance with Liara as paragon when I said I was happy for her to take her time, only for her to change her mind

The administrator on Noveria - can't remember his name - getting his comeuppance

Final fight, and saving the council and citadel

ME2

Mordin, single best character I've ever seen

Miranda's evolution, from totally sceptical to complete loyalist

Finding out who the collectors really were - that took me by shock

Having to decide whether to wipe out or completely indoctrinate the Geth - no real "win" choice there

LotSB - just all of it!

Final mission - and (more by luck than judgement) saving everyone on first playthrough, boy that felt good. And then telling TIM to f off, "you're on my team now"

Yeah I was extremely shocked when that happened too! So of course, I went back to experiment with that whole scene haha. Gotta love Wrex!
