All of the above. Also I would like to add that the best scene in the entire game is probably the conversation with Ash and Kaidan on the citidel.
Best ending to a completely serious conversation in the game.
Ash- "Or maybe they just don't like humans. "
Shepard - "Why not? We've got oceans, beautiful women, this emotion called love. According to the old vids, we have everything they want."
Ash - "Yeah, well if you want me in a tin foil mini skirt and thigh-high boots, I'm gonna need dinner first... Uh... sir... "

So True! I didn't find this till my second playthrough and regret missing it the first time.
Wow, so many great things about both games that it'd take a book of a post to list them all
****Spoliers May Abound****
(tried to keep this sorta short, but it was hard!)
Mass Effect 1
-The opening scene, walking through the Normandy
-Approaching the Citadel for the first time. How beautiful!
-Becoming a Spectre! (Love the dialog wheel 'We've got him (Saren) now' or some such when Tali is presenting her evidence to Udina and Anderson. That was exactly what I felt the first time through!)
-Citadel: I remember me. Talitha was a big pile of hurt. Her pain and reaching out with compassion and pity for her was touching. Loved the whole ambience and envoirnment on the Citadel in general.
Artemis Tau: The 'oh boy, this is gonna hurt' moment when encountering the Geth Armature along with all the hoppers. Loved the renegade response to the Krogan and the escape sequence.
-Noveria: Mumbling the code for the purge, and "Crap, a popup" on the dialog wheel. Captain Matsuo and Gianna Parasini were intersting characters as well.
-Feros: Got a bit creeped out my first time there, something was obviously off, and I had no idea what. Loved the suspense.
-Virmire: This place was amazing! It was a beautiful envoirnment followed by some epic storytelling. The confrontation with Wrex, with Saren, The speech (Hold the line!), learing about indoctrination, the Virmire choice, and the post mission blues were all very well done.
Gotta cut this short, so will try and post the great stuff about ME2 soon.
Thank you very much Bioware for such an awesome experience! I've loved your games since Baldur's Gate waaaay back in the day

Squeaky space hamster. I'd be pretty sad if I didn't get to keep him in ME3.

There are too many moments to recall all of them.
The one scene that *always* gets me to tears is at the end of ME1: A piece of debris rammed into the tower, the search lights, Anderson talking to your squadmates who shake their heads. And then.. from the wreckage Shepard emerges, limping, grinning.
Gawds, just thinking of it gives me goosebumps.
ME2 didn't quite have such a moment for me, though the whole LotSB DLC was a masterpiece worth remembering in the sense of 'a great scene'.

I agree.
But, if I had to name a couple, that stand out, for now, it would be:
ME1 - The Spectre induction. (still gave me goosebumps after multiple playthroughs
ME2 - Meeting Wrex again "Shepard, my friend" (need I say more

I've sooo enjoyed reading this thread! Brought back so many things and had me grinning from ear to ear.
ok lesse..wow..it is a lil difficult to choose only a few:
ME1:
1)Customizing my character and seeing her face for the first time (it was the time i played a game where i got to do that. i actually played the first game as john because...i just..had no idea and blindly hit the yeah, yeah, default..lets go button. i didn't think anything of it until i noticed ashley chatting me up...lol).
2)seeing the citadel for the first time.
3)becoming a spectre
4)saren saying "thank you"
5)saving wrex from being shot in the back!
6) saving the council (when i played it the 1st time..as john...i completely screwed up. in my opinion. wrex got killed; kaidan-my LI! got nuked...sheesh..and i let the council die. it was awful hearing the ascension calling for help and then say.."they've cut communication" it was like someone punched me in the gut. so..yeah..the next time.."reinforcements..it's the Alliance" yeah, baby! it's the Alliance! lol
too many more...
ME2:
1)seeing the citadel again..the new graphics
2)seeing joker come through the door. or actually, hearing TIM talk about a pilot.."and from what I hear, he's the best". I knew right then.."What?" i felt like i was on a gameshow. I was so happy to see joker cuz i gotta tell ya, i was feeling completely cut off and isolated at that point.
3)seeing garrus
4)wrex..."Shepard. my friend." shucks.
5)saving my crew and my squad (1st time i played...lol..it was awful. the ship was so empty. then i had to watch kelly get pasted....
6)blowing up the collector base....
7)when TIM was about to call me the B word, and my squad mate cut him off w/out me having to say a word to them to do so.
8)something like the 3rd time i cut off the council and this time all i heard was joker laughing...lol (i loved the way the crew was right with you)
9)mordin..gilbert and sullivan... then the long silence and awkward clearing of the throat..too funny
10) just having the opportunities to help ppl. whether the sick batarian, or the one remaining squad mate of Tali's...."not all of them" (too bad i had commit genocide later.....

Kicking that Eclipse merc through the window in Thane's recruitment mission.
Snapping the neck of that other Eclipse merc in Miranda's loyalty mission.
Making out with Miranda after she calls you a "perfect human specimen"
Saving my crew and having no casualties on the suicide mission on my first playthrough.

Me1: (Quotes)
Turian Counciler: Do you take pleasure from committing genocide, Shepard"
Shepard: Depends on the species, turian.
Wrex: So this is the famous turian general? How did your kind ever defeat us?
General Septimus: I may be drunk, krogan, but you're ugly. And tomorrow I'll be sober.
Sovereign: We have no beginning. We have no end. We are infinite. Millions of years after your civilization has been eradicated and forgotten, we will endure. (Still freaks me out.)
ME2: (Quotes)
The Illusive Man: Shepard, you're making a habit of costing me more than time and money.
Commander Shepard: I'm sorry, I'm having trouble hearing you- I'm getting a lot of bull**** on this line
Commander Shepard: If you want to help Urdnot you'd need to get back there. But It would take a real bad-ass to make it back while injured.
Sick Krogran: I can do it.
Commander Shepard: You! I said a bad-ass not some scout whining like a quarian with a tummy-ache.
Tali'Zorah: I'm standing right here!
Commander Shepard: [discussing 'sparring'] So when should I book the room?
Garrus Vakarian: I'd wait if you're OK with it. Disrupt the crew a little as possible. Take that last chance to find some calm just before the storm. You know me, always like to savor that last shot before popping the heatsink.
[Shepard gives Garrus a knowing smirk]
Garrus Vakarian: Wait... that metaphor just went somewhere horrible. (LMAO)
Gabriella Daniels: I've got green across the board. The forward tanks are bouyant and elevated.
Kenneth Donnelly: Are you talking about the Normandy, or Miranda?
Gabriella Daniels: I'm talking about the one that's covered and protected, not bouncing in the breeze.
Kenneth Donnelly: I don't know. Officer Lawson's uniform is very official. It always makes me stand at attention.
Gabriella Daniels: You're such a dog.
