How come the aliens are always the bad guys while humans aren't?

In every game featuring aliens, it's always the humans that seem to be the best. Let me name a few examples:

Mass Effect - The humans seem to make the strides

Halo - The aliens are ALL bad

Star Wars - The humans ran just about everything

I don't know if I'm wording this right, but what I think I mean is this: How come it's always the aliens that are the bad guys, and the humans are not?

I want to know what you think.

It's because WE are human, so it's basically something that we can relate to. It makes the most sense that stories would have this incorporated.

Well, there's no such thing as "bad', it depends on the POV. And how are Mass Effect aliens "bad"? And in Halo, Elites joined the human's side, if that's your definition of "bad".

I know that. But it's pretty cliche. Just about every game featuring aliens does this. Wouldn't something different be a nice change of pace?

1. You know what I mean by "bad," so let's not pull the "intellectual" card here.

2. Just about all the enemies you fight are alien and are considered bad (Eclipse, Blood Pack, etc.)

3. Only in Halo 3. The Elites really didn't "join" the humans side, they just had a mutual enemy.

I mean, I guess it's just that, more emotion is evoked from the player if it's something they can relate to...that's the only possible way I can explain it though.

But the majority of the time, the factions you're up against are alien.

That's not the point of the Star Wars thing. I mean why are their other races if the humans are just going to run EVERYTHING?

You know that Admiral Ackbar of the rebels were an alien right? And well, it was the empire running things in the three (main) movies, and they were quite xenophobic.

Fade is human and so is the rule bending C-sec captain that abuses suspects. harkin was a real piece of humanity in the first game and who can forget the Exo-geni man in Feros. Fist crime boss and murderer/drug dealer. There are plenty of human villains in the game.

Well, there are more, I can't pick out their names now, but watch the movies, they are there, and lots of the JEdis in ep 1-3 as well (and are you forgetting only 2 squad members in ME was human, the rest was aliens?)

first off, there are no humans in star wars. they just look completely human. for godsakes, they are from a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.

also, humans are not really the 'good guys' in mass effect. YOU(the player, silly) are human, of course; but that is so you can relate to the decisions you can make. if the main character was alien and made humanlike decisions, THAT would be cliche.

personally, i love the way ME was done, because i can understand the motives and decisions of every single race in the galaxy(volus, elcor, batarian, krogan, ect).

as arnold has said before, STOP WHINING!
