It can be an interesting idea, if is well applied. I mean, another cliche is that the aliens species (almost) always have superior technology but in Distric 9 they put the humans as the superior guys, it was an interesting movie and I love it.

It is a stereotype that gaming is slowly getting out of. Aliens make great bad guys because they're inhuman, making them easier to label as 'evil' and 'heartless.' Look on the bright side: if we had no alien bad guys, we would never have had the pleasure of shooting sleeping grunts.

There are many human bad guys in the ME games. Most minor, sure, but human bad guys are becoming more and more common in science fiction. The Illusive man is the most evil of the humans in ME in my opinion.

Also, in Halo, the Elites and even the Flood became your allies for their share of the time.

2. Just about all the enemies you fight are alien and are considered bad (Eclipse, Blood Pack, etc.)

Eclipse is full of humans.  It also happens to have salarians and asari, with the latter being more prevalent on, shocker, an asari world.  The Blue Suns we fight are mostly human, with some batarians, and were founded by two humans.  The main exception with them was Purgatory, and that's due to a turian being in charge of that particular operation.  Still plenty of humans there though.  Blood Pack is the only species-exclusive merc band (remember: the vorcha aren't real members.  They're just stupid enough to think they are).

Other human foes from both games (some only potential, but that still counts): Harkin, Hock, Fist, Helena Blake, all the Cerberus folk in the first game, sporified Feros colonists, various Shadow Broker agents, random ME1 mercs and pirates, some of the Peak 15 security staff, some of the ERCS at Port Hanshan (e.g. the most annoying of them all: Kaira Stirling), dudes on Jacob's loyalty mission.

And that leaves out all the human antagonists that you only deal with in dialogue, of which there are plenty.  Not to mention all the good guy aliens from all the species, both on your team and off.

first off, there are no humans in star wars. they just look completely human. for godsakes, they are from a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away.

also, humans are not really the 'good guys' in mass effect. YOU(the player, silly) are human, of course; but that is so you can relate to the decisions you can make. if the main character was alien and made humanlike decisions, THAT would be cliche.

personally, i love the way ME was done, because i can understand the motives and decisions of every single race in the galaxy(volus, elcor, batarian, krogan, ect).

as arnold has said before, STOP WHINING!

Calm down there. I'm not whining. I'm just stating my opinion without offending anyone. Also if they weren't human, what were they? Piles of goo?

District 9,Avatar - Humans were evil.

Also as someone else mentioned for Mass Effect, Cerberus is considered the biggest criminal organization there is in the Galaxy.

The Flood only joined with you for ONE part of a mission just to kill that prophet. After that they attacked you again.

I see that many of you are bringing up examples of human bad guys, I'll admit there are some exceptions (such as Avatar). But the bad guys that actually MATTER, are not human.

Okay, so ONE person.

Well there is Harkin, those random prisioners you talk on the presidium, Cerberus...

On Starcraft you have Arcturus Mensc as one of the big bad guys... a real villain considering the zerg do what they do because of what they are and... well... the protoss incinerates the human colonies because of the zerg.

That they did. But their joining you did matter for the game to progress didn't it? They weren't pushovers.

That's a convenient way to avoid having to admit that your "always" is just plain not the case.

You do make convenient statements that uphold the "always" :P They're not always bad. You can feel free to admit at any time that they're ever increasingly good. As for humans being bad, the same can be said.

In the end though, is it really all too bad who the bad guy is as long as it's part of a great game?

And still wrong.

I'd point to Babylon 5 again, but he doesn't like Babylon 5. Which is apparently a funny joke or something.

No, not that Babylon 5 is a joke. That OP doesn't like it is funny, I guess.
