But in the end, they were BAD.

You do make convenient statements that uphold the "always" :P They're not always bad. You can feel free to admit at any time that they're ever increasingly good. As for humans being bad, the same can be said.

In the end though, is it really all too bad who the bad guy is as long as it's part of a great game?

It isn't al that bad, but I'd like to see something else for a change. That's why I liked Avatar and District 9.

so you liked the CLICHE RIDDEN avatar, but you are complaining about an original story in ME?
don't get, do i.

How is the story in Mass Effect original? A soldier fighting against an alien race that is hellbent on destroying humans? How many times have we seen this? (Halo, Gears of War, etc.)

Thats because there are no original stories. "Monomyth" hero stories follow a pattern imprinted on our psyche.

For more information read "The Hero with a Thousand Faces" by Joseph Campbell. Neil Gaiman is one of the most brillaint writers alive said the following about the book:

"I think I got about half way through The Hero with a Thousand Faces and found myself thinking if this is true—I don’t want to know. I really would rather not know this stuff. I’d rather do it because it’s true and because I accidentally wind up creating something that falls into this pattern than be told what the pattern is."

But hey I'm probably being too serious for this thread.

the depth and realism(compaired to other scifi, of course) of the story bleed with originality.
also, i'm not sure if i'd count robots as being a race.
thirdly, what would you reccomend for an original plot that can captivate audiences?

I'd recommend something like this (even though it's just a slight change): For Mass Effect, maybe no Reapers, but an INTERgalactic nation that wants to annex the galaxy to their territory (but not do something typical, like ensalve them) that has been behind events that would lead them into taking over the galaxy, thereby turning ME into a mystery sci-fi with Shepard learning what's really going on before their galaxy is conquered. That's just my idea, though (don't know if it's any good).

LOLZ But shouldn't I be able to have an opinion on the internet because it IS the internet?

Then shut up and don't discuss things that are above you...

Seriously, how many would buy, no... how many would like a game in which you're an alien and you kick humans' asses, you come to earth and kill people because humans are the most evil race on the galaxy?
Some would, yeah, but some just want to stand out as being different...

In ME, humans aren't even that good... They are viewed ( rightly so) as overambitious, hectic and egocentrists.

You most certainly are, I don't happen to agree with it, but that don't mean anything, different opinions is what makes the world.

Joram Talid asked me what I would recommend for a plot, and I gave him what I thought. I never said I was a professional at writing stories. I just want something different for a change. And, telling me to shut up isn't helping, for there is nothing for me to "shut up."

On the internet you're not a person with a mind; you're just a screen name with dissenting opinions.

Oy Vey!

Civil Discourse is Dead!

I think one of the reasons that Aliens might always be bad guys in Games is because you can get away with a lot more Violence towards an Alien enemy than a Human one and pull off a lower rating from the ESRB...I'm just guessing here...I don't have a Game Platform & I tend to like PC RPG's...so maybe I've not seen some other Human on Human violence that might be out there...

Both Mass Effect games were rated M for Mature.

Well as far as we know, we're the only sapient beings in the universe. Why make us look bad and give the glory to some made up species? there are a lot of stories/movies/etc that make humans look bad, even if we are the main people. I mean, Cerberus are pretty much jerks, and we're snooty to the aliens--I think in Mass Effect it serves the point that they are all flawed.

Oh...yeah Wolfen, I know they were M rated, so Mass Effect itself is a bad example...I'm speaking more in General & there were other things that probably pushed it towards M. (personally, I can't figure out WHAT motivates the ESRB sometimes...but that's not much different than Movie ratings)

I'm just wondering if it would have gotten an even higher rating if it was all Humans getting Head Shot.

I'm not at all familiar with Halo or it's Rating or Enemies...anyone fill me in?

I know my friends' youngest likes one of the Military FPS's (can't remember which one) and the latest installment jumped from a T to an M because it was getting close to Real World events...
