The galaxy is on high alert as starships belonging to the Earth Systems
Alliance and Batarian Hegemony refuse to back down from a confrontation
in the Skyllian Verge. The encounter began when a frigate from the
batarian colony of Aratoht discovered an Alliance cruiser, the SSV
Budapest, on patrol in the Bahak system. The Alliance claims the
Budapest was chasing a pirate fleet that has been harassing human
colonies in the Skyllian Verge, and that it was fully within its rights
to travel through Bahak's space. The Batarian Hegemony has demanded the
Alliance's immediate withdrawal from their colony's system. Three
batarian cruisers stationed on Aratoht are now on their way to join the
confrontation

Latest CDN article.

Oh snaps?

Every single story on CDN is about the next DLC. This is a fact.

I don't see what makes this more "possible next DLC" than any other article on the CDN.

Doensn't really suggests its about a DLC. However these are the final days of regular CDN so maybe something interesting could happen. Let's watch.

Using my vast precognitive powers, I shall answer:  it will be resolved within the next few days.  No later than the 24th.

DLC based around kicking batarian ass? Sounds damn good to me.

Would be interesting to see war break out between the humans and batarians. The batarians have never really been presented as much of a threat though, at least not to anyone but unprotected colonies. They seem like a bunch of feckless halfwits. I'm thinking they're about to get stomped.

Yeah, maybe they should pre-empt the Reapers and totally go for Earth...

The batarians we've dealt with (and who most of the stories are about) are just criminal gangs/pirates/slavers.  The Hegemony is implied to give them some backing and/or tacitly approve, but so far it's not gotten involved.  It'd be a rather different story if the main batarian worlds actually mobilized for war.

I understand that quite well. My point is this: what sort of resources do they have? How strong is their military? What are the capabilities of their frigates, cruisers, and dreadnoughts? Are their fleets well maintained and modern, or are they dilapidated and out of step with the progress of the rest of the galaxy? We don't really know any of this.

What we do know is the Systems Alliance fleet is very modern and more than capable of putting up a decent fight. We'd be a close match for the turians, even if we would eventually lose by attrition. Can the batarians match that?

Well, then should you see why saying they're "feckless half-wits" who are "about to get stomped" isn't supportable.

Sure it is. It applies to every depiction of batarians in the game, without exception.

Actually no wait. There was Charn, but he's dead.

I also just did some refresher reading of the wiki and it is believed that as of 2160 the batarian military is inferior to the Systems Alliance, and they have only a single known dreadnought. So I am reasonably confident in my prior assessment, unless they've got an ace up their sleeves which is making them more bold and aggressive than before.

Unlike previous CDN entries whose "FUTURE DLC LOL" status was pretty tenuous at best, this is actually an event with galactic impact. Assuming this doesn't fizzle out tomorrow with "oh it was a misunderstanding and they all kissed and made up", I could easily see this leading up to the next DLC or at the very least setting the back drop for galactic politics circa ME3.

Given that it's so close to the end of CDN I'm more inclined to believe it's "Important".

Im still of the mind that Batarians will play a big role in ME3, I think the entire species, at least its official goverment will side with the reapers.

Indoctrinated Batarians will look freaky!

Well actually they have two. The Levathian of Dis and the Orbital mirror system. One is possibly a Reaper and the other can supposedly destroy planets. Plus I have a feeling that humans will yet again be fighting this battle by themselves.
I can see how this could be DLC. The batarian/ human war has alot of potential and was hinted at in BDtS, expecially since this may lead to the Reapers coming back to the galaxy, since they could possibly join their side. Either that or this could lead to a war that we would eventually have to stop, and in the process recruit the batarians to our aid.
If this was DLC i'd love for the VS to be involved, also seeing how the real batarians are, apart  from the crinimal and their government would be interesting, along with female batarians and a possible ME3 batarian squadmate.

I think blowing up a few batarians is a fine way to give Alliance soldiers a taste of war. Get them nice an ready for the big battle to come.

A war with the Batarians, would explain why the fleet is absent when the Reapers drop on Earth, only a small vanguard remaining

The Leviathan of Dis is a bit of an homage to leviathans in Farscape, which coincidentally enough were exactly as described in Mass Effect to the extent of sharing the same name even. I'm confident enough that that's what the Leviathan was to dismiss that one with air quotes.

I had forgotten about the mirror thing, but that sounds like it's not exactly mobile.

I doubt BW had any real intent when they put the leviathan in, but they could certainly retcon it as whatever they wanted it to be after the fact since so little is known.
