OP: I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this. I saw this and was wondering why any VS DLC fans were jumping on this, so I noted this in the "what next for DLC" topic. Guess I should have made a new topic... Thankfully you did though!

CERBERUS NEWS NETWORK, 1/23/11: The Alliance cruiser that sparked a standoff between the Earth Systems Alliance and Batarian Hegemony has retreated from the Bahak system. Hegemony officials claim to have found no trace of the pirate fleet the Alliance was allegedly pursuing when the SSV Budapest flew into the system. The Alliance maintains it was chasing pirates raiding human merchant vessels when it crossed into batarian space, but refuses to release any of its ships' logs. Despite this, Citadel observers say the Alliance's withdrawal has done enough to ease tensions. "The Hegemony knows the Alliance is attempting to save face," said one anonymous Citadel diplomat. "At this juncture, the humans' retreat from Aratoht [in the Bahak system] has gone from a diplomatic crisis to an embarrassment they want swept under the rug."

Looks like it was just settled - unless something happens tomorrow.

Maybe the DLC will bring Shepard back into the Alliance and send him on a lead for the Reapers. One that the Alliance was already investigating and brought them into Batarian territory. This CDN could be mentioned in the new DLC. Of course, I'm just making this plausible and have no reason to believe it.

DLC based around kicking batarian ass? Sounds damn good to me.

Count me in.  With the exception of the sick batarian on Mordins recruitment mission and the tech that Garrus had on Omega, pretty much EVERY batarian encountered in ME have been involved in random criminal acts, slavery, drug trafficing all the way to attempted acts of genocide be it BDtS in ME1 or that batarian squad trying to nuke the human colony Watson in ME2.

I have great faith in the writers at Bioware but it'll take an act of mental gymnastics of Olympics standards for me to have sympathy for the batarians in a DLC or ME3.

Sounds like a mission for a stealth ship.

well, that's totally nothing to do with the bridge between ME 2 and ME 3. I still remember that Bioware will make the gap DLC after shadow broker. batarian and human conflict is totally side story. not really important.

I've always figured that the batarians must have slaves of their own race, or else their 'slave caste' wouldn't exist.

Also, aside from wanting to kill Garrus, the batarian that meets you at the start of his recruitment mission seemed nice.  I mean, at least he was honest that the attack was pretty much suicide.

Yeah, some of those batarians were pretty straight up and honest at least.  Another that cracked me up was the batarians about to shoot Mordins assistant, Daniel, and if you let them go one of them says something like, "Human nobility, I didn't know such a thing existed." and I thought to myself, WTF?!?  This coming from the guy who was about to murder an unarmed doctor. <_<

But to your first point, given that the batarians generally don't let their own people out unless it's to go raiding and slaving or whatever then I have to assume that their ruling class are royal bastards to their own people as well let alone those they victimize outside their territory.  So maybe there's a massive sense of unrest and all that is needed is a spark to ignite the flames of revolution for their race.   If that comes to be, them my paragon Shepards will likely do the moral and ethical thing.  My renegade Shep will likely nuke them from orbit..... just to be sure.

So, now that this situation has settled down, will the final news entry be about Shepard? Maybe he/she punched a reporter... again?

"A major brawl ensued today in the Wards when merchants disagreed about who owned Commander Shepard's favorite shop on the Citadel. Numerous establishments produced audio recordings, allegedly genuine, pronouncing the hero of the Citadel's preference for their merchandise. Only after more than 3 hours of fighting and numerous injuries, C-Sec managed to restore order with the help of a Turian dreadnaught providing fire support.

The Turian Councilor Whatshisname was quoted as follows: "There will have to be a thorough investigation of this affair. There is even the possibility that Shepard nefariously recorded all of these endorsements in an attempt to spread discontent and sedition. After everything we've done for you, Shepard, dost thou perfidy know no bounds?"

I suddenly got this horrible image in my mind about a creature from Humandescent staring at me with those freakish eyes D:

Anyhow, would be awesome if this was a hint about an Alliance/VS DLC. ME3 description does mention Alliance after all. Has to be a bridge for it somewhere....

Hah! Now someone found evidence that the relays are older than the prothean civilization. I wonder if it will be the last news or we'll have one more CDN.

01/24/2011 - Paper Suggests Mass Relays Predate Protheans“Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus. Her team claims that by testing the dust trapped in the gravity wells around a mass relay, and comparing its composition to that of dust clouds in the same system, scientists can create a timeline of when the relay passed through the dust. Her conclusion? "Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years," she writes, "The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans." Dr. Aurana T'Meles of the University of Serrice met the information with skepticism: "While Dr. Kenson's methods appear sound, the asari tried a similar procedure centuries ago and discounted it. What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species
