Yeah, stating opinions as facts is reserved for people who agree with you.

It was his opinion, and you told him his opinion was wrong. That implies you think  your opinion of the game is objectively better than his.

Some opinions are more justified than others. But that's just my opinion ;-)

Well, I'm a obviously a big fan of The Witcher, but it's hardly flawless, and it's reassuring the devs themselves recognize this.

- mediocre combat NOPE (translation: it's different)

- poor ots camera NOPE (for the first few seconds when you get used to it)

- bad English translation...really bad. NOPE, atleast not in the enhanced edition, i don't know if it changed from the original

- unstable, at least in the original version. Like so many games but it doesn't matter anymore, because we have the enhanced edition now.

- people absolutely hate the sex cards. I didn't mind them, but I won't miss them. What the hell is there to hate about them?

- gambling was unbalanced. NOPE

- fist fighting was terrible. Not good, but not terrible.

- excessive running around for the main quest. NOPE (subjective, but running around is common in all RPG's, as well as BW's RPGs. I enjoy the scenery, I don't mind.)

In spite of it all, a wonderful game and a highly original one, especially for the genre. But it ain't perfect.

Slim is...pretty much the source of my Witcher vitrol, because he talks about it a lot. He's a fan. He says so. Right up there. I think the point being, is he's not mindless, and can point out flaws with it.

Don't go around telling people their opinion is wrong. You don't think it's rather obnoxious to but a big, bold, capitalized NOPE after everything he says?

Wow, I mean, I've always known that Witcher fans are quite obsessive about how perfect the game is... but jeez, it's like reading a console fanboys reaction to their system of choice.

I mean, I enjoyed the game and all, but they way some of you describe it... It's actually kinda funny and amuses me greatly, specially when you notice who it is. Makes a bit of sense really.

It's sad that I have to say this but I did that because it seemed like an efficient way to answer his specific points while easily being able to see what he said and what i said :)

I honestly think Skyrim is gonna come out on top. From what I read its going to be great. Better face models, No more face zoom during conversations, duel weilding of anything you like (two weaopns, weapon spell, two spells) NPC's will actually perform tasks and jobs instead of waiting around, side quests will be tailored to how you play the game, Some NPC's will come talk to you, there is a friendship system and the story sounds much much better than Oblivions.

Well, you might think that, reading previews and getting excited.

But then you stroll into the Bethesda forums and OH GOD THE APOCALYPSE IS NIGH. Not so different than here, I shouldn't think.

Anyhow, I'm super special excited for Skyrim. Not as much as DAII, but, as I said earlier, it's all about genre preference, and I prefer DA's type of RPG.

No, he is right.  Slimgin(or whatever) was stating his opinion as a fact.  In case you are wondering about my views, I thought the Witcher's combat system was horrifically boring.  Probably the worst one Ive played.  Totally killed the game for me.

Lucky for me, it sounds like they are drastically changing up the combat system for TW2

I would honestly say that The Witcher is a flawless game. Every single aspect of it is just amazing.  The looting and inventory system was great, the alchemy is the best of any game I've ever played, the combat was really fun, and  the character was satisfyingly customizable.  Geralt himself was also amazing.  The choices presented to you were never clear-cut, but you also had sufficient information about the situation to help you.

Yeah, um... I liked it, but to call it "flawless" is ridiculous.  I recognize it's your opinion and you have a right to it, but it's a little hard to take such a biased view seriously.  No game is flawless, for one thing.

Some of the things I didn't like about it were the twitch mechanics in combat which could end up with some really derpy results, and the presentation of women.  Even the strong women in the game- Triss and Shani- just weren't believable or compelling to me as characters.  DA hands down makes better women characters.  That's not even getting into the silly cards.  It also felt like I did a lot of pointless running back and forth to complete quests.

Lil' ol me? Ok, I'm sorry. I'll cut back.

I've brought it up not just because I'm a fan, but because I see so many parallels in the DA universe. And yes, there is more to it, but ser Gaider has responded patiently to my posts and confirmed they are coincidence. I take his word for it.

These are the Bioware forums, so I shall try to discuss all things Bioware.

If Skyrim is anyhow like Oblivion I am not going to buy it. The best Bethesda RPG was Morrowind btw., not Oblivion. If Witcher2 is anyway like Witcher1, I am not gonna buy it either. So for me most like it will be DA2, SWTOR and MassEffect3. And that's it unless either Witcher2 or Skyrim get 9/10 ratings from reviews.

I don't know for The Witchers 2. but Face it : Skyrim will be smaller than Oblivion and somehow, that can mean easier. just look at the Tamriel Map ;

and TEs 6 will be on High Rock because they want to keep those games smaller but beautifull, and Bugless. I somehow liked Oblivion but I agree, this is NOT Morrowind's Epicness level.

Well I wager Skyrim is big enough to make a good story. Just as long it is not 'Oh no, the Daedra invade again, let's kill them!' like in Oblivion. The whole game felt like a side quest of Morriwind.

Not really since sidequests in Morrowind usually lasted about 30 seconds. <raises the Lion of Orlais and whimpers as a horde of Morrowind fans begins to charge>

Btw, just because Skyrim looks smaller on a map doesn't mean it will be smaller in-game. Daggerfall was a randomly generated world around the size of great Britain and yet only comprised of some of High Rock and Hammerfell.

I think in order of excitement I'd say:

Skyrim - Mass Effect 3 - Dragon Age 2 - Diablo 3.

Although I'm looking forward to getting them all. I've never actually heard of the Witcher before so I cannot comment on what the sequel will be like.

so, I haven't been near the Skyrim forums, but what exactly would they be upset about? The simplified talents, dual-wielding for combat, etc?

I agree, they're fixing a lot of the things that were wrong with Oblivion.

New engine, new leveling system, better NPCs etc.

And they seem to be making an effort to tie the plot in well with the existing lore (lore that goes all the way back to Arena released in 1994) while also adding some interesting new elements.

Bethesda is doing itself a favor by confirming mod support for Skyrim. I wish BioWare would do the same for DA2.

You kidding?  Heh, Elder Scroll fans, about every iteration, act like the sky is falling, in a very flamboyant and dramatic fashion, quite entertaining to watch, honestly.

To be fair though, people actually do stuff with ES mod tools, plus, typically, ES series needs the help, much more so.  Although, I do really hope we do get mod support for DA2 as well, I agree.

Mm...Bethesda deals with open worlds. The plot in ESIV and FO3 is sort of unimportant to my enjoyment of the game. You just go ahead and do what you want. This is ideal circumstances for mods.

I do think mods can make DAII better, but they have less to offer DAII than they do ESIV.

That said, yeah, I wish mod support was there.

It's a deconstruction of traditional fantasy, and DA tried to deconstruct fantasy in the same way. George R.R. Martin did a similar thing with a Song of Ice and Fire, though he chose to avoid any fantasy humanoid races entirely.

Personally, I think the major shock of both the Witcher and DA:O is the treatment of the elves, and knocking them off their pedestal. The major difference is that the Witcher never treats the elves as being the kind of high minded heroic fantasy race, whereas DA:O does.
