I just bought the enhanced version of TW a few days ago - started playing and the first thing I found jarring was the VO acting - I just couldn't get into these thick American accents coming off every character in the first hour or so of playing. IMO, they just seemed out of place. Loud and totally not suitable to the 'lore' setting. But that's just me. I think they should have utilised more neutral accented VAs or more European accented VAs.
I think Bioware spoiled me with DAO  Can't wait to hear all the VO acting in DA2. Bioware's casting is choice! I also can't wait for the DA2 story - I am going to be eating, sleeping and dreaming about it in the first few weeks of play:wizard:

I also have Oblivion (GOTY edition) and after buying all the houses, completing most of the major quests, I found it so pointless and difficult to keep on going.  I did love exploring the open world though I paid for it with crashes every 30 mins or so. Looking forward to Skyrim - it looks promising indeed.

My predictions for quality:

TW2 > DA2 > ES5

My preditions for sales:

ES5 > DA2 > TW2

As far as review scores go I expect it to be similar to my sales prediciton because reviewers prefer mainstream games that their fans likely know and care about.

Pft. Everyone knows that the minute you start following your dreams in reality versus just in your imagination, you sell out.

Two Worlds 2 is going to be the best rpg of this generation, simple as that.

That's not his point. Bioware started out making fantasy RPGs and has a long tradition of games in that genre. Moving away from it, ostensibly in order to attract more sales will mean a dilution of the RPG factor, and hence a less of a 'fix'.

He's not saying Bioware doesn't want to become big, he's saying they started out as a niche company.

Disclaimer: I really have no opinions either way. I'm happy to suspend judgment until the game comes out.

So DA2 somehow isn't a fantasy RPG, or KotOR is one?

Considering the sheer amount of bugs in the original TW1, I find this assesment dubious at best.

What would be the point? Conflicting ideas, compromises, and an unclear narrative? No thank you, let each company do what they do best.

I have no doubt in my mind that DA2 will be the RPG of the year in my eyes and with ME3/TW2 pretty close behind.

I have no more interest in anything Bethesda made, being burnt twice with Oblivion and Fallout 3. Both of those games were in the same area of fun that I had with Final Fantasy 13. Yes, I said just said that. Whenever they are ready to put RP into RPG, I'll be ready to go back. My reasoning is that they spend all their time developing the world, throw in some amateur created quests and then they think they are done. Bleh.

Given that the D&D license was what put us "on the map," I'm not sure you can consider it to be selling out. We barely existed as a company before it. Unless you were a rabid fan of Shattered Steel, or something.

With games like Dragon Age 2, Witcher 2, Skyrim, Two Worlds 2 and potentially Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 all releasing within the same year is indeed a great time to be a fantasy RPG fan. My greatest expectations are of course aimed at DA2, but I truly can't wait to play all of those games. :)

There is alot more to do in TES games than DAO and especially DA2, TES games offer much more freedom which is the very essence of roleplaying for most people.

Alot of the quests in DAO and ME2 are mind-numbing as well, hmmm how fun is it scanning planets for minerals LMAO!!! very exciting, honestly tho, DA2 will not even be close to RPG of the year, its not really a true RPG anymore anyways, ME3 will be a contender with Skyrim, DA2 might get 4th place if Two Worlds 2 is a flop, if its not, DA@ will be 5th likely.

Heh, I was about to say: "Clearly BioWare sold out to people who like good franchises and games." But this will do.

Essense of roleplaying games for some people.  I'm glad open world and story-based RPGs both exists, because they serve very different types of players.

If you like TES more than Bioware games, that's fine - it means you prefer open world games.  That doesn't make one the definitive RPG over the other, except when it comes to personal preference.

Now that's just crazy talk without a coherent point.

I don't think AlanC9 is using the term sellout in a pejorative sense.

Really, all the games are so different its hard to compare. In Dragon Age its more a linear style story based RPG and Skyrim its do what you, want explore where you want looser story though, so its a trade off sorta. I'm a console player so I dont know anything about the Withcher 2. But yeah they are so vastly different it all comes down to personal opinion.

"open world" and "story based" are not mutually exclusive concepts though. You can have both if you so choose.

Monotonous gameplay, however, should be avoided at all costs.

I'm sure it'll be silly to think Bioware can survive on story alone.  As if bioware games turned into an extended quick time event session like heavy rain; or over glorified cutscene fest like metal gear.

Well, if DA2 dosn't gets any prize, I don't care, I never listen to those Game of the Year awards anyways! (Seriously, ME2 wasn't even nominated for the ONLY game of the year prize in my country, and the winner was Mario Galaxy 2! With Arkham Asylum and RDR on the competition! Madness I say! But that's what you get when you let 11 year old girls vote for GotY...)

Well, real RPG purists would have licensed a better PnP system -- something a little less dumbed down for the masses than AD&D was.

(/facetious)

More seriously, a company that licenses the #1 PnP RPG system and then goes on to do Star Wars isn't exactly trying to avoid the mass market.

I think in the ideal sense, they are mutually exclusive.  At the very least from a logistics and mechanics standpoint.

They're both tugging on the player's interests - to explore and create their own story versus to follow and enjoy the writer's story.  You can do both, but I'm not certain you can do both well.
