After losing my character data to the game freezing I looked through the forums and it seems that a large portion of the people losing save files are experiencing the freeze during the shadow broker quest.

So I just wanted to post a warning to everyone until they fix it that the shadow broker quest Is causing alot of people to LOSE THEIR CHARACTER FILES. not just a single save file on a character the entire file for a given character becoming unaccessible. You can't reload an earlier save, you lose all access to the character in question.

So, heads up.

If i saw this before i played it would have skipped that dlc but too late because what you described happened to me right when i was getting in to the shuttle car,any news when will they fix it or if it will keep happening if i get back to that point in the game because i had 40 hrs plus invested in the game so far.

No idea. I, too, wish someone had posted a warning. A bunch of people in the "Corrupted save data" thread claimed it happened at that same spot. That's where it was for me too. Loading the shuttle car chase. I hope they fix it soon, but after losing about 20 hours of play myself I wish they'd fixed it awhile ago.

I have no personal info on when/if it will be fixed, I'm just hoping to save others from the frustration.

Thanks. But how can you find your DLC's?? where do you find this mission? I don't want to trigger it accidentally.

you have to talk to liara about it before it happens so just dont talk about the shadow broker with her

Are you able to play this mission AFTER you have completed the game??

This is extremely helpful, thank you for the heads up. I was about to launch this mission last night but decided to do another companion loyalty mission instead. I'm about 40 hours in as well and I would have been *extremely* displeased to have lost it all.

It's especially bad that it corrupts all of your files and that reverting to a previous save will not work. That a bug like this wasn't caught is beyond me. This isn't a minor issue if it breaks your entire game.

why big blogs didn't pick up this news ,like kotaku or joystiq is beyond me. Ps3 port of ME2 is a bloody buggy mess! I will not cancel my game order but i'm afraid of playing it.

So, to avoid this game-busting bug, what *exactly* do I have to do to avoid triggering it? Avoid any conversation option with Liara involving the Shadowbroker, or just avoid activating the shuttle chase scene?

I haven't had any problems so far with ME2, but when it comes to RPG-type games, you absolutely *cannot* have problems the corruption mentioned above. That sort of thing keeps folks from coming back, period, to the game and leads to Bioware and EA taking a HELLUVA black eye.

EDIT:  Lolz, wrong forum posted.  Sorry.  I didn't pay attention because I guess I'm not use to the PS3 forum being here.  Welcome to the community, hope they fix this for you.

360. Whoops. I posted on the wrong forum.

@Bourne
Thanks, yeah.  I thought I was in the 360 Tech Support forum.  Those programs would NOT work with the PC or the PS3.  :)

This glitch is PS3 exclusive. The 360 and PC versions do not have such an issue and have no need in backing up files. Furthermore, I am not certain the present modding programs would work for the PS3 as the save files are likely different. I could be mistaken on this however.

Until this is properly resolved or a loophole provided. I would recommend you not starting LotSB whatsoever. To avoid the mission, do not select "Let's get the Shadow Broker" from the dialogue wheel when talking to Liara. That is the activation requirement to begin playing LotSB. If you already have, do not take a taxi to Liara's apartment.

Just as an aside, is anyone else struggling to fathom exactly how a game can hit the market in this state?

I dunno, why don't you ask Square Enix?  FFIV is a massive failure that might bankrupt their company.

IDK if someone else said this but if you have the balls and a thumb drive you can play the Shadow Broker DLC. I backed up my saves and turned off auto save, thought I saw someone say it was corrupting saves. The part where the car chase starts the game started chugging along and scared me a lil but made it through fine. Seriously has to be the coolest missions I've had to do in a long time, worth a try!

I think it's B.S. i had to dig through my desk to find a thumb drive just to play the game cuz every time the game slows down I expect it to freeze a billionth time.

I know it's off topic, but I'm hearing horrible things about the buggy nature of Fallout New Vegas too!

I own fallout new vegas to and it has freezing issues just like what i've been hearing about mass effect 2.I had vegas freeze on me about 10 or so tims already since. i got it As for avoiding that mission in me2 i will do that thanks guys.

You don't have to avoid doing this mission if you have this issue, just turn auto save off.

I played through this mission with success (Even passed the shuttle test) but I did notice some slowdowns and freezes during and after the car chase segment, especially at the hotel. PS3 BTW. 320gb slim.

I made sure to back up my save game beforehand incase I did lose it, I saved before talking to Liara. I'm not sure if I'm the only person that did not get affected by the bug.

Interms of freezes in comparison to other games such as New Vegas, well it's alot better than Fallout since it runs pretty well.

Other people have posted loss of data even with auto save off. But yeah, after losing my character data I decided to take a break and play me1 again. I have an old first gen 60 gig ps3 with the media bay though so I supposed i can start backing up my saves to a psp memory card...

Also changed the title of the thread to be a bit more informative, thanks for the suggestion.

Right, missed an X there.

For something partially on-topic, I experienced multiple freezes after installing LotSB on my PC that I hadn't experienced before.  Bleh.

well I'm surprised by this. I just finished the shadow broker yesterday and it all went smoothly. (SPOILER?) except when I try to watch the video thing at the end. the bot secretary doesn't say his lines when the subtitles shows up. then later on, my shepard just stares at nothing but the game doesn't freeze so i still can quit the game to the XMB and reload the game. my files are still there so maybe i'm lucky? the video part is optional so i can still continue the story.
