One of the reasons given for the delay of DA:O was to give more time to marketing; so yeah, I'd say we are not going to get the same amount of marketing for DA2. I would love to see individual character trailers for each of our companions, the way we got them for DA:O, but it doesn't look like we're getting them this time around.



It's really not "doomsaying" to point this out, people. I know it's really popular to jump on anyone who sounds like they're being the slightest bit critical, but asking for more info at this late date is to be expected.

That's an excellent marketing strategy!


Like them or not, those action trailers/commercials with heavy guitar riffs get the attention of people who wouldn't care about the game if it were advertised with classical in-game style music and in a less flashy nature.

And as a metal fan, I don't mind them at all.

No. Just thread going "waaaah waaaah". They literally serve no purpose other than saying "the game is going to suck lol".

Heh. Now that I think about it, that was when I started avoiding all DAO prerelease materials. Then I had to give up the forums when people kept talking about that stuff.

People got spoiled with the whole advertising thing last time round due to the game being delayed.
BioWare already stated that things would be ramped up in the month before it went on sale - and we're not there yet.

 Ignoring the fact that it was a completely new series, that needed a heavy douse of video's and ect to get people interested.  Not so much this time around...  They've already said before with the PC version, that it play's very close to the same and outside of actually watching the animations go off, I'm not seeing what else is needed.  


Although, I guess since they completely gutted DAO and completely and utterly destroyed the gameplay of the original, I can see why some are wanting more.<_<

Personally, my favorite bits of advertising from Bioware's recent games were the character trailers from ME2, the interview style ones. If they did that treatment with the already revealed companions for this game, I'd be pretty pleased.



It's a long shot that's less likely to happen than the full game being released tomorrow, but still....

Im sure EA has some advertising ploy for Febuary. Its hard to imagine them not making any type of mainstream advertising.

I know one big expensive ploy, Dante's Inferno did it, that could garner selling of units would be to advertise DA2 during the Superbowl but I dont know if they are willing to spend two million bucks plus to air it.

I'm pretty sure Metroid Prime 1 actually didn't have a lot more footage than this the month before it came out. And boy, yeah, that was AAA alright. Not completely different situation either in that everyone was saying the game was going to butcher the series and what made it good by changing stuff. Then when people played it, the vast majority felt it was just as good as the originals at what it was doing - if not even better.

yeah, waiting to literally do all of your marketing in the last month before release is not smart, and considering how well the marketing was for the most recent games DA:O and ME2, its not a good sign in my view, and also kinda confusing.....

I'm happy with the marketing, mostly because basically none of the story has been spoiled so far and I hope they keep this up.

DAO marketing spoiled too much imo. The videos showed Cailan and Jory getting killed and what the Redcliffe, Dalish and Mage tower problems were and to top it off they've prettymuch shown all of Loghain's landsmeet speech which happened very late in the game.



I'm not that interested in combat so what has been shown so far is enough for me. I would like something similar to DAO Ostagar gameplay video though. A narrated video of Lothering area with some conversation footage and VO of female Hawke. I'd also like some companion videos that wouldn't spoil too much of their backstory.



Mostly I hope that future info is light on the spoilers as it was so far.

Ah yes, i remember that one. "Thanks for the warning" i said and closed the browser window. Good thing people who played it convinced me otherwise.

The first ever video of DA:O I ever saw ... and the one that prevented me from buying the game. (Which I will do next month) 

Only a bit over a month left and we have almost nothing.
