While playing Awakening, I found it interesting that Velanna's sister apparently possessed some connection to the darkspawn. The Architect himself notes with some confusion that other darkspawn were drawn to her to some way, and Seranni herself seemed to think they were like lost, confused children. And even though she looked like a ghoul, they didn't seem to try and turn her into a broodmother.
Now, no matter what, Seranni can't be killed during the expansion no matter what choices you make. Afterwards, I assume she went into the Deep roads, either with the Architect or on her own. Would anyone be surprised if she showed up in DA2 or perhaps a future DLC as a new leader of the darkspawn?

I would. I doubt there is anything deeper regarding her character.Face of Evil wrote...

I wouldn't completely write her off. She must've been of some importance if the Architect took notice of her like that. Maybe there is something to her that everyone has missed? Oh, wouldn't that be a trip...haha

and what of Utha? She played a very small role. I wish that they had more of an explanation of her.

If you read the DA novel "The Calling" Utha's presence and origin is explained there.Clairvoyance wrote...

One reason is that the Architect needs their blood and Utha+Serrani are willing donors, and want to help the Architect to eventually help end the blights.
It's been a while, so I forget the exact details, but if you side with the Architect towards the end of Awakening, he goes into detail about his goals and you later find out who was responsible for the 5th blight.

The Architect needs Grey Warden blood though. Since Seranni is not a Grey Warden, she wouldn't meet the Architect's needs in order to awaken more darkspawn. (Although, granted, if the Architect knows the formula to create the Joining draught, then he could turn Seranni into a Grey Warden too.)

That is a good point. If Serrani isn't a grey warden, then why is she willingly giving the Architect her blood and walking around with the blight disease? Ah well, perhaps we'll never know.

it's possible that he did have her undergo the Joining, or something similar enough to it. or it could be that he's using her to experiment on trying to bridge the gap between ghouls and wardens in order to get a more plentiful supply of blood
but given that she survives Awakening no matter what, it's a fair bet she'll turn up again later
