Yeah this should be in the class/build discussion, I know. But as a PS3 user I can't register my copy so I can't post there because apparently the fact that you can evolve your skills is a spoiler, or something.

Brass tacks, I've played both ME1 and ME2 on the Xbox, beaten them as a soldier (on insanity for 2) and ME2 as a sentinel (on normal or veteran or something, can't remember) and now that I have the PS3 copy with DLC and the time on my hands to do the side stuff, I want a class that'll keep me interested without constant frustration. To this end, soldier is out because I already did that, and vanguard is out because I tried him already and A: I almost never have a good opportunity to charge safely so I feel something else would be more appropriate B: I suck at getting the shotgun shots in enough to kill the guy(s) I'm charging, resulting in constant frustrating deaths and C: I feel like I'm ignoring the spirit of the class since I mostly sit back and locust things in the face a bunch. I'm also rather turned off the adept and the sentinel because for adept I don't really feel like sitting back and warp bombing is very intuitive to me, and sentinel was boring as hell (sit back with vindicator, shoot in face, never use powers because maxed tech armor breaks the second I peek out of cover.)

I'm willing to be persuaded that I've misjudged a class, but considering I prefer to kill things rather than strip defenses or control the battlefield beyond kicking people out of cover when I can do it safely, I'm not sure there can be much said that'll appeal to me. Also, please explain why you suggest something.

Then I recommend the Shotgun Engineer or Shotgun Infiltrator. There are some YouTube videos with those two classes. And they have some neat powers, but dunno how much to share in this forum.

I can try to answer some questions for you though.

Oh, BP is your choice, but Reave, Energy Drain and Neural Shock are solid choices, IMHO.

particular reason you suggested those? Stupid question I know, but I like to get the reason for this sort of thing.

Sentinel with assalt armor and Cooldowns reduced, never played something else so easy as this...
->assalt armor once destroyed gives u 50% of ur shields and with cooldowns reduced u can activate another amor when it is detroyed so it makes u almost invencible

Do soldier again.

It's the only good class.

I did it as a Vanguard, hard as hell, but I guess its worth it. As a vanguard you really have watch your tactics and get lucky.

Well it is.

The biotics of the other class don't matter because you can you use your squad.
Every other class has no good selection of weapons.

The soldier is the every class. Why do you think the default shep is a soldier?

Because soldiers take very little thought beyond the ability to aim and therefore are the easiest to play? And BioWare anticipated that a good chunk of players would choose to be the default Shepard on their first run, and therefore decided to give them the easiest class to play while they got used to the game?

There is no 'best class'. Although some classes are easier to play than others, they can all do work, and which one you decide to play is based on personal preference. It's a single-player game.

If anything, the biotic characters are easier to play. You can simply biotic everything to death. Not to mention you become stupid power if you upgrade and max out your skills. Then you add loyalty to that.

The vanguard is full retard at its finest.

On the other hand, the Soldiers actually takes a really nice amount of thought and skill to play.

They're given every tool they need to get the job done, and not be too powerful.

They have to rely on themselves and their squad to crush the enemy.

Surely the default shepard would be a soldier. I think there is a "best class," but no one says it because they know people can't handle the truth. They'll just deny it and scream troll.

btw, ME needs co-op

Also, to Doctah...

Don't you technically aim and shoot biotics?

I thought so.

I'd recommend a shotgun Sentinel with Assault Armor. It's an easy way to learn the ins and outs of close combat. Once you get the feel for close combat, use the Vanguard. I would say the Vanguard has the steepest learning curve of all of the classes (on Insanity), but I would also say that it is the most enjoyable once you really get the hang of Charge.

Biotics have what we call "homing projectiles" which makes aiming rather easy. The only challenge is learning to curve them to hit the occasional enemy that hides behind more than a chest high wall.

Also, maybe you didn't notice, but enemies have a tendancy to stand completely still when they shoot or hide in cover. Hitting them is painfully easy if you've played a shooter before, which I would assume most people playing this have. And even if you DO struggle with aiming, you have BULLET TIME.

Final note: guns do waaaaaaaaaaaaay more damage than biotics (IMO) and most biotics don't do much (if anything) while enemies have layers of protection. Which they ALL do if you play on insanity (which we are for the purpose of this topic). Yes, the soldier is probably the strongest class. Why? Because you have every advantage and your only disadvantages are covered by squadmates. All classes are equally capable, but soldier is by far the easiest to work with.

That said, the main reason for this topic was because I want to try something new, because I don't like the image of the soldier (I like having something beyond lots of bullets, for aesthetics if nothing else) and I already beat insanity as one, so can we forget he exists for the purpose of this topic?

Actually, the Soldier is the only class that has absolutely no need for squadmates. They certainly make the game easier however you are so ridiculously powered that they are merely compliments. Adrenaline Rush further drops the difficulty to "lulz" level. Granted, any class can solo. The Soldier is the best at doing so.

There is no "best" class. There is merely "that class you like most."

Please.

I think anyone with eyes can see why the biotic class are more powerful than a soldier.
The biotic classes are easily the best solo classes.

There is a best class. See the part about people not being able to handle the truth.
Naturally the people that can't handle it are they people who think the soldier is the easiest.

Right. Try playing as an Adept on Insanity.

I demand a "make-a the fool shut up" button. Metal gear solid reference is right, try the adept on insanity, THEN tell us it beats soldier (Without lying, mind you). Until then BringerofChaos, please stop trolling (and before you say I'M the troll or something like that, keep in mind that we're using majority rules here, if everyone but you thinks your a troll/you think everyone else is a troll, you're a troll.)

Right, back on topic: why does everyone seem to love the shotgun so much? I cringe a little inside whenever I get too close to guys after enemies started surviving 2 point blank eviserator shots (although charge IS a fun skill) Frankly, I find myself between the infiltrator (strong, but being a stealthy dirtbag bothers me, and I find myself wishing I could spam a strong version of incinerate more) and vanguard (shotguns hate me so much...the stagger makes my headshot turn into a complete miss.)

Because shotgunning in ME2 is a completely visceral experience.

People like the shotgun because krogan make fun of you for not using them, and sometimes words sting more gravely than bullets.

But seriously, as marshalleck says it's just really brutal, risky fun. Especially when you throw an enemy across a room with the reload/melee trick.

You have invalidated every single one of your arguments. ME needs co-op, like a fish needs a bicycle.
Soldier is a class for those with no imagination. There are plenty of soldier only shooters out there, I suggest you stick to them.

Personally, I had a blast (no pun intended) doing an Insanity run with a shotgun Infiltrator. Add in Garrus/Zaeed/Legion/Thane doing some sniping, and Kasumi also doing the sneaky routine, and you are well and truly creating chaos on the battlefield.
Sneaky sneaky sneaky BLAM!
