This may sound weird, but does anyone else think that Jacob & Jack are a sort of replacement for the roles Ashley and Kaidan had in the first game? Jacob and Ashley were both soldiers who survived Eden Prime, while Kaidan and Jack were both the benchmarks in the success of human biotics. It's almost as if the ME2 characters were fillers. What do you think?

I don't agree that there's a flat parallel at all, or that the ME2 characters are lacklustre by comparison, but considering the few commonalities you mention between these characters there are some interesting contrasts (particularly between Jack and Kaidan - e.g. Jack was abused far more than Kaidan, and thus didn't really bounce back in the way that he did).

Some of the characters in ME2 were indeed cardboard copies of some of the characters from ME1 and equaled poor replacements.

I don't think that's Jack and Jacob though. Jacob was very dry emotionally, collected and logical. Kaidan was more introspective and reflected/dwelled on the past.

Ashley is a poetical christian redneck, Jack has identity problems and very cruel childhood. Hence why I don't think you are making the right parallels. I do realize I am making a generalization by using few words to describe said characters.

And if all of you trolls don't like the thread, you can just let it die instead of posting one worded comments saying "No, Lolz na, WHT?".

Do I think Ashley and Jacob are the same? I think there are similarities. Both saw Eden Prime, and both are the same age. But those are the only similarities. Ashley has a large nuclear family, believes in God (and contrary to what people might believe, there is no evidence pointing her to being a Christian; she only mentions her belief in God), and furthermore was close with her father. She also vehemently defends the Alliance. Jacob has no family, wasn't close with his father, and thinks the Alliance does nothing really but twiddle their thumbs while waiting for red tape to clear.

I don't see any similarities between Jack and Kaidan except for the biotic factor. Miranda and Kaidan have far more similarities between them. Both of them are the same age, are sentinels (if I recall), and are rather talented with biotics, and that's just on a more surface level.

Miranda is a bit older.

Both are 35 in ME2.

But I'm not saying that they are identical.  That would be like saying Samara and Liara are the same because they're asari and both are wise, or that Wrex and Grunt are the same because they are krogan.
