CERBERUS NEWS, 1/24/11: Paper Suggests Mass Relays Predate Protheans

Historians and astronomers alike are abuzz tonight over a new paper published by Dr. Amanda Kenson of the University of Arcturus. Her team claims that by testing the dust trapped in the gravity wells around a mass relay, and comparing its composition to that of dust clouds in the same system, scientists can create a timeline of when the relay passed through the dust. Her conclusion?

"Only a small fraction of the mass effect relays date back 50,000 years," she writes, "The majority are far older, indicating they were created by a species predating even the Protheans." Dr. Aurana T'Meles of the University of Serrice met the information with skepticism: "While Dr. Kenson's methods appear sound, the asari tried a similar procedure centuries ago and discounted it. What civilization could have spanned the galaxy for not thousands, but millions of years? If this were the case, we should have found mountains of evidence of their passing. Where is this species now?"

An asari being dismissive of human research? How surprising.

It got me excited as well! I think this is the CDN team's way of telling us "the Reapers are coming." Perhaps, of course, it is a hint at us learning more about the Reapers' origins? We'll know for sure when ME3 and the new DLC come around.

I’m gonna miss CDN, probably more than I should.

I’m not gonna lie, I was more interested in reading the Cerberus News every morning than I was in reading the ‘real news.’

It was never said to lead into another DLC. This is in fact from tomorrow, but because Australia lives in the future, they already got it.

Seems to be a trend to go "we've dismissed these claims" towards humans. Damned aliens...

Dr. Kenson seems to forget, that the origins of the Protheans are still a mystery. For all we know, they might have existed and traveled our Galaxy for millions of years before disappearing about 50,000 years ago.

Yeah, except Liara made similar claims and it was also dismissed...probably by the same scientist.

If you scanned the Keepers for Chorban he sends you an email saying his findings indicated that whoever made the Keepers also made Sovereign and the Cidatel and they dismissed his evidence as well.

It amazes me how the beings of the Mass Effect verse cling so desperately to the theory that the Protheans created the Citadel and the Mass Relays and hard they fight against even the idea that someone else might have created them.
