I'd like a confirmation, please. Is the demo the only way that we're going to hear Lady Hawke speak before the game releases in March?

A simple "Yes" or "No" will do.

Here's a thought:
There is a DA2 demo coming.
You can play as male or FEMALE Hawke
Hawke will speak in teh dmeo.

Problem solved. :)

Does the demo have credits?  We'd need credits to find out the actress's name.  Unless we recognise her, of course.

Plus even when there is a fairly large majority of people who recognise the actress' voice many refuse to believe until they get official confirmation. All the VA's people have guessed have had to be confirmed before we could be convinced really.

It definitely seems off not to announce the voice talent when it's such a selling point (for DA2, Origins not having had a voiced protagonist) and with the general praise of Bioware's casting of their games. Of course we might get a VA announcement/news story before release, but I'm sure I remember ME and DAO having them long before release? We definitely knew Jennifer Hale would be FemShep for example. Give Lady Hawke some love Bioware! Every gamer out there knows you can pick a gender in your games!

But it's not just about this. I was really, really excited that Bioware was actually going to MARKET Lady Hawke, in the way that they never did for FemShep. I was really excited that we'd come past this thing where female leads had to be hidden so that they don't confuse male gamers into not buying the game. I was seriously excited that Lady Hawke wasn't going to be hidden.

Sigh.

Back to being ~*not the intended audience*~ I guess :(

What, you don't like being the Other Shepard and the Other Hawke? We ladies are so unreasonable.

True that.  Though if they need something to take to marketing, how about "your female PC is an asset not a detraction"?  Seems pretty simple to me.

I would love the whole marketing team to actually like gaming for a start.

/Did I just say that? Seems I did!

@Sylvius: I think the chance on having credits in the demo is rather small. So we get to play the 'who is the person behind the voice' game.

I agree with that so much! It seems like the marketing team, hates their jobs and really cant be bohered! But hey ho! Nothing we or the devs can do about them being stuck in the '80 Image IPB

I am terrible at the guess the voice game, and although I look forward to hearing her I will have to rely on keener ears tp tell me who she is....pleaseImage IPB

EDIT: Oh yes women are second class gaming citizens! As it was when I played on my Atari and commidor, so it still is now, Image IPBImage IPB

This reminds me of how hard we had to plead just to get a picture of Lady Hawke a few months ago.

It does still seem that unless there are fluffy pink unicorns, we're 'outside of their target demographic'.  This makes me both angry and sad at the same time.  But still, its only 2011, its not like we should expect any better.

I am now tempted to put this in my sig:

That's awesome. I loved Battlecat!

Also, Bioware's marketing should throw us ladies a frickin' bone, here. Don't they know that February is Girl Gaming Month?

I have two sisters and a brother, and we just mixed all our toys together in one giant toygasm. So I played with He-man and GI Joe, but they were often hanging out with some My Little Ponies while I did so. :innocent:

That depends, would someone who doesn't follow this thread know how badly we want LH? It may be on you to provide for us!

I know how badly you guys want to hear her! Barring any unforeseen complications (like my demo code doesn't work or something) I promise to record LH speaking for you guys on Feb 11. :wizard:

You rock, Minxie!

Just keep in mind that *IF* you manage to grab some LH footage with her speaking that wherever you upload it to, DON'T POST THE LINK HERE.

We all know what happens when word of unauthorized footage gets out. It gets pulled or shut down, and we don't want that happening.

So, *IF* you get it, just PM the link to us. And we'll pass it around amongst ourselves (since we seem to be the only ones who care so much about it, anyway.)

Here's hoping that Lady Hawkes voice is to die for.

I'll remember that. ;)

Just wanted to ask that if you did do this, if I could be on the list for the link. ^^; I've been kinda' lurking around this thread ever since it was on page 10, and don't want to miss out. :D

Fingers crossed for us hearing something before the eleventh, though! If her voice is everything everyone's been telling us, I think I'll probably play through the game ten times just to hear her beautiful voice.

Indeed. It's kind of funny how they worry that if they show something of Lady Hawke it'll get in the way of their manly advertising, or putting a face on the franchise (despite the fact DA is a franchise about Thedas not about an individual, right?) yet they also worry that all these gamers who don't care what a female character would look like pre-release and who apparently never go on these boards (we are a minority of fans), would have their desire to buy the game affected by the posting of even one screenshot on the official boards/site for the game.

I can almost follow the logic of not putting the female version on the front of the box art (although I say at least putting something that doesn't relate to the gender of the protag like a logo is a fair compromise in that case), I can just about get over them not featuring the female protagonist in as much marketing material in general, but I will never understand the way they are apparently not allowed to even release a handfull of screenshots before release (or a few days before in the case of ME2 I believe). It's just weird.

Lol. I may have done something like that once or twice. I didn't have Teela, so I took off Prince Adam's chest thing and made him be the girl, because he looked girly in those purple tights with the longish blonde hair.  I also remember something like this:

*Holds Skeletor figure on top of Castle Grayskull* "Ha ha, He-Man! I have captured Castle Grayskull, and you'll never take it from me!"

*Friend who's over takes He-Man and jumps him up on top of the roof of Grayskull* "Die, Skeletor!"

Me: "No no no, you can't do that!"

Him: "Why not?"

Me: "Because, you can't just leap onto the top of a castle! You have to climb the stairs!"

Him: "But there aren't any stairs!"

Me: "I know, but you have to pretend there are. Just jump from level to leve and pretend like you're going up the stairs."

Him: "Okay."

Yeah, I wanted my RPG experience to be... Realistic, even when I was 7! lol

Anyway, Lady Hawke! Yeah! Will we hear her before the demo releases?

Cool - Girl Gaming Month.......

Forget about the bone, no matter how persistent we are, they won't give us anything new from our asking alone. Remember, they don't owe us anything (as they've said in various ways on various threads.)

It's a turn off, and it sucks to be overlooked in this manner. I hold it more against their marketing geniuses (whether EA or BW) than anyone else, although I would have hoped that the devs would have had a bit more clout/influence here. Especially the female employees at BW.

I would love to hear Lady Hawke's voice, or at least know the actress, so that I can at least get an idea of how my main character will sound before I actually play her.

Considering that this sort of information is not spoilery and will still get people pumped for the game, I'm not understanding the difficulty in getting it out there. Though, I don't understand any part of DA2's marketing at this point, so maybe it's my own problem for expecting different treatment.

For now, I'm pinning all my hopes on the inevitable demo leaks on the 11th, so that if, by some miracle, the voice gets released prior to that, I'll be pleasantly surprized.:)

Maybe they hold back because it’s the most anticipated and it will keep people coming back for more. I don’t know, I wish they’d reveal her voice, too, but I can wait for the demo. It doesn’t really bother me, perhaps because I am used to it, or maybe because I don’t care enough. I know she is there, I know it’s an option for me to be a female in a game, so it’s okay.

I actually think Bioware is a lot more fair than other gaming companies when it comes to their female fans. And btw, where are most of you women getting these sexist gamer guys talking to you like that? lol I have heard so many people say this and I can honestly say I rarely come across it to that extent. Sure, I get “Really?” a lot, but I just laugh it off and I find that if I don’t make a deal out of it, they won’t either.

It reminds me of when I talked my friend (who is female) into playing Halo with me and she kept getting killed. She threw down her headset and said, “That’s it! I am tired of getting killed, they are only targeting me because I’m a girl!” They were targeting her because she sucked.

Just curious, would not hearing her voice determine whether or not you'd buy the game?

If the lead writer couldn't convince the art department to give elves shoes, then I kinda doubt the ability of anyone to successfully argue with the marketting department. :pinched: We can always hope, but I am dubious as to some of the devs abilities to influence these things.

Sigh. I will love this demo. But that doesn't stop the disappointment.

LOL.

Or do what my husband does to me.

"C'moooooooon... C'mon... C'moooon, pleeeeeease? PLEEEEASE? C'MON! C'mon. Please? C'mon." LOL.

Does it work?  All it does to me is make me want to say no, I don't want to fix dinner it's your turn,  even more.  Unless he includes flowers or chocolate.

It's when we're watching tv and he wants to lay down with his head on my lap. I usually tell him no because he falls asleep and then he starts doing the "C'mon" thing. And I'll give in, because it's not that big a deal. But if he starts snoring, he better watch out!

Snoring?  Men don't snore.  At least that's what my husband tells me.  Says it's the dog.  :)

I guess I'll be downloading the demo to see what she sounds like.
