what is happening with my game is as follows:
start game up,go to menu, select save game, load save game, play game for anywhere between 45mins and a few hours and it will randomly and without warning crash to desktop with windows saying the program has performed some action, windows is searching for a solution and needs to close!? after this if i try to do anything for e.g run game again/search web for help my pc goes really slow and will crash!? i have sussed out that when it does ctd that i have to restart pc after and alls well! well untill i play da again and it ctd's that is. i have set the game to run in compatability mode for xp service pack 3 and to run as administrator and that seem to prolong the ctd by a little while. that is as far as i have got, PLEASE HELP AS ITS DRIVING ME MAD.
oh and im using an original release of both DAO and DAO Awakening on disc
MY PC's SPECS ARE:
Win 7 64bit
AMD Phenom 1090t 4.24ghz oc'd

Samsung 1tb 10,000rpm sata hdd
Sony blueray r/w drive
Antec 1200 gaming case

Don't know if you saw my reply in the other thread that you posted in-- at first blush, I suspect it is the massive overclocking on your CPU. I know that's counter-intuitive, and probably the last thing someone who's built a system like yours wants to hear... but DA doesn't respond well to brute force.

thanks for the heads up Raen ill go turn cpu down to stock in a few hours as ive been up all night (5.10am now) trying to get this problem sorted. check back as i will let u know if setting clocks on cpu helps any.
(pheasants with gatling gun lmao)

ok ive played DAO for about 2hours so far after putting cpu at 3.24ghz and no crashes. still not 100% if it has solved the ctd's but it seems 2.
oh and i just thought ide say i think its a bit stupid to have to downclock my cpu just for one game! a have about 50 other pc games including Mass Effect 1+2, assasins creed 1+2, crysis+warhead, gta iv+bogt+tlad,metro2033,avp,re5 among many others with no problems or having to faf with my cpu just so it will run, so why DAO???

I can't argue with that, frankly. I am no programmer, and I don't have any special insight into how Dragon Age is coded versus other programs, including other Bioware products. I think it is safe to say (especially in light of your findings) that it is clunky and perhaps overly sensitive to CPU/memory timing changes.
I do take heart that, perhaps, this will be addressed (even inadvertently) with DA2-- when the system specs were announced, it only requires 7 GB of HD space as opposed to whatever DA:O needs... something like 20Gb? People were assuming there was a lot less content in the new game... but the developers spoke up, claiming a lot of the space savings was due to more efficient coding. Let's hope that translates into a more robust experience processor-stability-wise.
Glad you're finding at least some level of success, now!

just an update for you Raen, i think the downclock 3.24ghz has solved my problem as ive clocked up another 8-10 hours on the game with no problems to report. cheers for the quick heads up and insite into the game. will finish this and awakening n then go back to my previous overclock of 4.24ghz.
Thanks ss52

I know this is an older post, but I feel the need to state this anyways:
I believe the Overclock error has been stabilized, finally. I have a custom computer with an overclocked CPU that now runs at about 5 or 6GHz (can't remember which it is exactly) and I never experience any problems at all, except the occasional texture malfunctions - but those are due to mods I've installed incorrectly.
