So I've seen it said that we will have companions, normal ones, like the companions from the last game, but also something called 'followers'.

I just am wondering what exactly the 'followers' entail, can we build up an army? Are they named npcs or generic 'you have the aliance of this guild'? Can we hire people in? Once we get them, can they perform certain functions, like blacksmithing or something?

(If anyone has played skies of arcadia, the way I am kind of imagining it is it's similar to crew building in that game)

You misunderstand. Companions are also called followers. I don't know why. It is what it is.

Sounds like a great idea, could be fun and usefull. Think Followers/companions are the same thing really in DA2.
Again fun idea though.

I think he is referring to templars that are after Hawke, being an apostate, rather than templars under Hawke's command.

Really? I could have sworn I saw a dev refer to them like they were seperate things.

Guard: 'Ser, is this elf your companion?'
Hawke: 'No, he just keeps following me.'

Ofc that's what he is referring to. He says "We are running from your bloody templars". Why would Hawke run from them if they were his army? Makes no sense.

I'm not crazy, but I swear I remember one of the dev team saying, when people were asking if everyone in the dragon bloodstain was a companion, that some were instead 'followers' which were differen't.

I imagine it's kind of how you could get things for turnip keep in awakenings, maybe here you can recruit people to join Hawkes group in a non combat capacity. Hire on a blacksmith, do a quest and get a merchant to move in, use persuade to talk someone into letting you co-own their inn.

Maybe they're companions that you can only get in a certain time period? Something like where they only follow you until you finish a certain plot, after which you may or may not see them around.

Have you even watched the video? -.-
Theres alot of people standing BEHIND carver so no its not that obvious that the templars are hunting hawke and not the 14 people + carver pointing at hawke cryin about it.

Also the way carver says it sounds more like hes angry at something hawke has made the templars do.
I doubt that something is being born a mage.
"damn you brother you were born a mage!!11 Look what you have done!!!"
Makes no sense

Really?  Hawk is an apostate mage.  The Templar are not going to like him.  I can see Carver geting mad that they have to keep fighting off Templars if you play a jerk Hawke that keeps pissing them off left and right.

Also to the OP I love the idea of having followers in the Skies of Arcadia mold.  One of the few games out there that made you care about and have a real reson to go around finding people to join your crew.  LOVED that game.

Oh man, another person who's actually played it! I can never find anyone who has.

If they are doing followers like that, I will be so happy. Especially if they give Hawke a big ol' empty keep/mansion/area she's in charge of or whatever and basically says 'this huge place is empty, why don't you go fill it with some people!'.

And as soon as you recruit someone you can see the new store/job/area of the keep they stay at and it's a bit less empty.

If they're actually doing followers like that, da2 may well become my favorite game ever.

That's what I was thinking, that they join you during a certain plot period or a time period and then is a side character and no longer part of the party, like the different party members you get in the origin stories and then meet later on in the game, like Soris or Gorim.

To me the words follower and companion are very different.... Companion is a friend.... Follower, someone who wears a red shirt, and dies screaming.

Hawke is an apostate mage.  I doubt very much he is leading an army of people who hunt and kill apostate mages.

I firmly believe Carver was referring to the fact that the Templars are after Hawke, thus requiring the whole family - including little bro Carver - to pack up and leave their home every few months or years or so of his life.  That can easily lead to some resentment.

It's exactly why my warrior Hawke will not exactly be such a loving sibling to dear sis.
