I understand it's a "Random drop" but I'm wondering if it is more likely to pop up after finishing one ofthe main plot quests orsoon.I've been searching for this sword for nearly 3 whole days. I've been going back and forth between winding wood and vigil's keep. And I have had numerous encounters with darksawn, bandits and dwarves. I've had 2 encounters with Dragons, but none had the body or chest or stash or bag that had the dragonbrand sword on it. I've been doing this the moment I unlocked wending wood.

Perhaps if you can recall how you got the sword, do tell.

First off, it's not a random drop, per se.      It's a set drop on a random map encounter in Awakening.   I've gotten it once... while traveling west somewhere.... towards Kal'herol or some such.  You'll know the area when you see it.  It's a desert canyon like map called  "dragon-something".   The map contains some drakes, and there's an adventurer's corpse there that has the sword.

But I can't really answer your question because I have no idea  what kind of formula the game uses to determine the chances of coming across this random map encounter, or even if it matters where you're traveling to/from.

The encounter is random and mostly bugged. If you're on the PC you can spawn the encounter using the console or just spawn the fab room and grab the sword without fighting.

I've tried to get ******, and it seems, if you force the game to give you random encounters early in the game, the less likely you will ever see that encounter. So my next playthrough I will go to the Wending Wood first, because the Dragonbrand encounter will triger only once when you leave the Silverite Mine to Vigil's Keep (save the game befor you leave the mine). Just like Burning Bridge will trigger only once when you return to the keep just after you get Velanna. The whole random encounter is verrrrry bugggy, I listed my every encounter in the last run, I forced about 20! encounters I got a few twice, but still no Dragonbrand just darkspawn, and bandits mostly.

I'm fed up with this! I've even checked the prima guide for some info on the Dragonbrand encounter, it is listed as one of the static encounters that should be triggered if at least one plot is completed, but it simply won't happen! I wish I could remember what have or haven't I done on my first run of the expansion, when I got it.

I've played Awakenings several times and never gotten it.

It supposedly happens when you go from the wending woods back to the vigil's keep. I don't think its findable anywhere else.
