Today I Bought a copy of the Ultimate addtion of Dragon age. as it takes up quite a bit of space on my xbox(I only have a 20gig hard drive) I decided to delete some of my saves for mass effect 1 to clear some space. However i'm unsure as to which ones to delete. i have already played through ME1 and 2 and I had a lot of save files for ME.1 I deleted all of these except for the most recently dated save file on the list. I also left my profile and another file I wasn't sure about with an A in front of it. My question is it necessary to keep the files if i've already imported my data(and don't want to play the first game through again?) and which ones can I delete if not? is it possible to do this without stuffing up my ME2 game(in case i want to play it through again?)

How many saves do you have for ME1?
I would suspect, though by no means certain, that if you've already imported the characters you want from ME1 into ME2 then you no longer 'need' the ME1 save on the HD. If you want to play, say, Mirth Shepard from ME1 and completed ME2 with Mirth; you can always import Mirth from ME2 back into the game if you want to use Mirth's decisions from ME1.
Or to be on the safe side you could move your ME1 saves to a compatible USB stick.

Would I still need my profile "save"? and what exactly does the file with the A at the end of it mean? does it indicate that i've finished the game or imported it across to ME2? Also, would my most recently dated save I have for ME1(the only save I didn't delete) mean the finished game data or would it be the last save I made before finishing the game?.

Seeing that the save games are time and dated I think you can answer whether the most recent save is your final save game. Since there's only one autosave file for any character, well, you can figure out the rest. (If you decide to load an old save from a character you've completed the game with and hit an autosave spot, that will of course get updated to reflect your playing status.)
Deleting the old saves from ME1 should have no repercussions for your ME2 games; at least this is my experience and it is something I have done.
Digging out my old saves I think the 'A' (found when browsing your HD) stands for 'Autosave'. I moved an 'A' file for an old deleted character back to my current HD. Now...their 'career' doesn't pop up under the usual 'switch careers' option, but the save does come up with the 'All careers' option.
I'll be honest and say I'm not sure what the 'Gamer Profile' is for, but I'd guess it's to do with achievements and such. It might be how info is displayed as well (see above). Plus it's only 500KB on my HD so I don't know how much space you really need but it's not a lot.

Experimenting with the 'Gamer profile' suggests it is a record of the characters you have saved.
When I deleted it I had no careers presented to me, but all saves are still there. It certainly looks to be a presentation thing.
Restoring it brought back all my present characters to the 'Careers' option screen.
That's all the info I can provide you, you'll have to make your own choice.
