My character is a defensive warrior and my usual party contains Leliana (with Ranger spec), Morrigan (Spirit Healer spec) and Alastair. I swap out Alastair for Shale/Sten when I feel like it.

For gear I have the Blood Dragon armour on my character, but I am now stuck as I can't decide what to put on Alastair and Sten out of Juggernaut, Warden Commander or Cailan's armor sets (or maybe my character should wear one?). I am thinking of putting Alastair in the Juggernaut set and working on him being a true templar with high resistances to be a mage-killer, but it's puzzling me since I have so many options.

Any suggestions?

If you want Alistair as a true templar, put him in Knight Commanders with mix and match gloves 'n boots. If you are the aggro magnet, then put yourself in Cailan's (tier 7) and Sten in Juggernaught.

I rarely use Juggernaut. 20% less damage from magic isn't as useful as the stamina boosts from WC and Cailan's that let you spam more talents - particualrly important for a two-hander - plus they add 15% critical damage. (I almost always prefer offence over defence.)

What about Blood Dragon? Is that better for a tank than Cailan's armour?

I don't think so.  Cailan's has dodge, physical resist and health regen.  Plus BDA looks silly.   
Juggernaut at least looks great - particularly on Sten!

Cailan's armor is the best all purpose set for a tank in origins. Sentinel for awakening.
