I haven't been able to get my xbox controller to work at all with ANY game on vista. Kinda sucks really.

If you were indeed looking for a serious answer, you would have found it before having to ask a question. We get lots and lots of questions on this board that get asked at least once a month. This is one of them.

Anyway, controllers are not officially supported but you can download Xpadder and make a Mass Effect profile. Newer versions of Xpadder cost money so find an old one. You may get an error saying they don't work on W7, so you just change the compatibility in the properties if you run on Windows 7.

Yes there is, someone managed to make the xbox 360 controller work perfectly with ME1, including vibration and even made the buttons icons show up in the game, you only need to use the mouse at certain point in the game( while adding mods to your armor and guns or while in the tactical pause)

Hmm i just noticed you said "xbox controller" and not 360 controller, well i doubt it'll work with the xbox original controller though.
