I hate it. It makes game look worse. I always take off motion blur and film gain on my 360 settings for both me1 and me2.

Hell yes.

Didn't ME1 already have a bit of grain ?

Yes, though it looks like ME2 has less of it honestly.

ME1's film grain was abhorrent. Thankfully ME2's Film Grain isn't so bad so I don't mind having it on, it's not as fuzzy as it's predecessor.

Yeah, I realized this after replaying ME1 after all this time. Still, I'm not turning it off.

ME1's film grain was terrible. Just to... grainy. I haven't even tried to play ME2 with film grain after that...

I left the grain on 1 and 2 and I love it. Personal tastes.

I personally can't stand playing games with film grain turned on, it just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

I couldn't stand it. It was horrible. It was like the opposite to watching Avatar on Blu-Ray for the first time.

Fortunately, the good people at Bioware gave us a method of switching it off. I remember when Monolith released FEAR 2 and offered no such option....:?

Then again, FEAR 2 was legendary for how poor it's presentation was - everything from enforced 16:9 aspect ratio (i.e. big black widescreen bars across the screen if you didn't have a widescreen monitor), no normal save system, no console, reduced key-remapping... it's like the developers actually put effort into making sure it was crap... they patched some of the rubbish out but it permanently soured my FEAR experience.

I like motion blur, though. :)

ME1's film grain looked like a whole lot of noise. Really bad and unrealistic. However, ME2's film grain is far more realistic and a lot closer to actual film grain. I barely notice it, and that's how it should be.

I would also like to suggest playing the game in movie or cinema mode if you own a HDTV. Playing ME2 in dynamic or vibrant mode makes everything look very grainy due to the amount of edge enhancement being applied. Generally speaking, if you are using a HDTV with a HD source such as a 720p game like Mass Effect 2, edge enhancement is NOT needed.

This is the reason I play ME2 without it was terrible in ME1 its like playing a movie from the 70's. No movie worth its salt has looked that bad in 40 years. I thought my 360 was broke 1st.

Yeah, I always turn it off in ME1 for that reason. But ME2's film grain is a lot better. It actually makes the image look more realisitc.

Wow, I'm feeling the love for ME (1)'s grain effect. Never knew it was so hated. I personally never had a problem with it. So far I haven't seen the grain effect in ME2 in a very noticable way on the other hand.

Same.  It helps break up the artificial look.  It's like a little more AA added on there.  It's never bothered my vidcard, so I leave it.

I don't know I thought FEAR 2 was rather enjoyable, except for the ending. God, that was a horrible ending.

As for film grain, I kind of like it. It gives me the sense of watching a movie.

In ME1 film grain was too grainy so I always turned it off. In ME2 I like the grain. It makes everything look less plasticy

I did not know that ME2 had a "film grain" setting untill this morning and I did not know that ME1 had the same thing untill I saw this topic.

I don't mind the "film grain" setting on the 360 version ME2 ( although it would be interesting to turn it off to see what the games looks like without it ) but I had to turn it off on the PS3 version because I felt like somthing was a bit off with the graphics.

As for ME1, now that I know that it has a "film grain" setting it would be intersting to go back to it and turn it off and see what differnce it makes to the visuals.

Same here. ME1 film grain was too strong, it made everything look dirty. ME2 film grain is better and gives an "extra depth" to the image. I think it works best in dark, indoor areas, while in sunny places like on Horizon it's better to turn it off.
