Couldn't stand it in ME1, in ME2 I'll may give it a try considering the postive responses here.

I liked it, it helped take the edge off the more jarring graphical defects, I wish Fallout 3 had a film grain option.

I killed film grain in both games. It's annoying and an eyesore. But it is an option, unlike the tutorial for ME2 which you cannot turn off at all!

I bet it's better to have enabled on a (HD)tv when playing the 360 or PS3 but less appealing for the PC unless of course, you have a really big screen.

Wish more games would use the film grain/noise feature. ME1's was a bit strong, but still preferred it over not having any at all. As others pointed out, grain helps soften the graphical aspects that scream "game".

"I like film grain. Makes me feel like I'm playin' a movie."
I have to agree completely with that - referring to ME1 here. At one point, I realized that it made screenshots look crappy. But when in-game, if it's off, ME1 looks too much like a video game - with harsher, more contrast-y transitions. So I like it because I think it makes ME1 look more "cinematic." To me, film grain is so subtle that I didn' even really notice it until I started looking at my screenies when I was about 2/3 through the game.
I started ME2 and played for a short while before quickly ordering ME1 and switching to the original. The graphics I saw inside the ship at the beginning in ME2 were stunning. I don't remember if grain was on or off but it was most likely set to the default setting.

I loved the grain effect in ME1 but hardly even noticed it in ME2. I think it got toned down somewhat.

What I find weird is that in ME2 the film grain is much more obvious in prerendered cutscenes. I kept it on in ME2.

I turned it off in ME2 cause I was really annoyed by it in ME1, but reading this thread I might turn it back on for my next playthrough, see how it is.

I don't use film grain option. Everytime I see an option I disable it in every game.

It's too rough in ME1 so I deactivated it. But in my recent replay of ME2 I accidentally left it on, discovered it later, made some "comparison" shots and played a little with it off and on...and finally decided to keep it on. It's much more subtle in ME2.

Never used it in ME1. May use it in ME2, but if I find it horrible, I will never try it again.

I play on a 52" LCD HDTV and I'm a PC gamer exclusively. Film grain makes the game look horrible, where as without it, it's crisp and beautiful.

Never turn it off. Seeing the crystal clear lifeless image without film grain brings me back to the awful, disgusting fake, plastic Star Wars prequels and I can't handle remembering those...
Film grain gives character, depth and "life" to a game or a movie.

IMHO, adding film grain doesn't make ME feel more movie like, lowering the framerate to between 25 and 30 does, however...
Plus I think the grain is too much - it would be nice if we could tweak aspects of it, like in photoshop
