Film grain makes a game look incredibly unprofessional. I turned it off.
Does any one actually like playing with film grain on!

Why bother having a HDMI cable setup to your 1080p HD TV and then put the
'CRT Monitor from the 80s' option on ^^
I say no to film grain, the age of 35mm film is long gone.

ME1 - Turned it off.
ME2 - Couldn't tell the difference between off and on. Don't know what I left it at.

I loved the grain effect in ME1 but hardly even noticed it in ME2. I think it got toned down somewhat.

Never turn it off. Seeing the crystal clear lifeless image without film grain brings me back to the awful, disgusting fake, plastic Star Wars prequels and I can't handle remembering those...
Film grain gives character, depth and "life" to a game or a movie.
The ME1 film grain was fantastic, yes it was grainy and muted much of the colors, but that was the point.
I was kinda sad that they toned it down in ME2, I felt ME2 suffered for it.

I don't really mind, but when I turn it off it's always a revelation that the game is actually far sharper and good-looking than I thought.

Agreed. I couldn't play ME1 with it on. Too distracting. It was subtle enough in the second game to actually improve visual quality. I like the cinematic feel it provides.

I tried it, but didn't like it. I don't think it works with a sci-fi game.

I did an entire ME1 playthrough with it on, but after turning off I realized how better it looked without it.

To me, it's one of the tools being used these days to make video games more stylistic through the use of subtle effects. More effective in this area are motion blur and the best of all, depth of field. Depth of field not only makes for some great screenies but also triggers some stuff in the brain that makes ME feel much more real.
Film grain is either on or off so there can't be consensus. It'd be cool if you could dial in the strength by having it adjustable.
