Hi all, I was wondering if anyone wanted to contribute any ideas to an assault rifle vanguard. The vanguard will be on insanity and despite that fact that I am calling it an assault rifle vanguard shotguns will still be very prominent, although I cannot get the eviscerator. I am just looking for a a build so that the rifle will strip shields/barriers quickly and then follow up with biotics.
Thanks for any contributions

If you have the Firepower DLC, then the Mattock is your friend. Powerful, absurd rate of fire and fairly accurate it will act as a decent defense stripper. Cryo Ammo is a bit underrated on a vanguard as I like to freeze an enemy with the Mattock then whilst the frozen target is still standing I use Charge and either shatter it against a wall or finish off with a melee then find the next target and do the same.
As for biotics Pull is the only decent biotic power a Vanguard can use on Insanity as Shockwave suffers heavily thanks to it's long cooldown and ineffectiveness on shields, although Pull is still good enough if you decide to go for Pull Field.
Experiment with different weapons, ammo powers and other stuff like bonus powers with Vanguard and you can get some nice results.

From my playing, the only real use I find from Shockwave is the ability to knock enemies out of cover. Not awesome, but it does work well if you're using the Locust or an Assault Rifle.

If you're up for a bit of hacking, the Vanguard makes splendid use of the Revenant.
Zooming right up to a bunch of uglies and hosing them all down with inferno ammo at point blank range.

Only if you have your game edited to make vanguards use AR from the start, otherwise, there's no way to get the revenant, being a non soldier class

That's why I mentioned the hacking

If you have the Firepower Pack, then the Mattock basically replaces your pistol nicely. Other than that, I just use SMGs as my main automatic/ranged weapon.

Now that I'm near end game, here's the build I've created for an Assault Rifle!Vanguard. I based it off of the "Cryoguard" guide:
Powers:
Inferno Ammo (Rank 4)
Squad Cryo Ammo (Rank 4)
Champion (Rank 4)
Heavy Charge (Rank 4)
Shockwave (Rank 2)
Pull (Rank 3)
Stasis (Rank 1)
Weapon Layout:
Mattock
Carnifex
Tempest
Scimitar
Personally I love the Mattock over the Locust so I switch between using it and the Scimitar as my primary weapon. As a bonus, Stasis is still preferable, as even with the Scimitar you can still do some big damage.
