Hello, posters. No, this is not a troll. Come to think of it, are there even trolls on the Bioware forums?

Anyway, I'm looking for the "worst" class to play for Insanity. After watching the g4tv interactive Mass Effect comic, I felt like replaying Mass Effect 2. Since my harddrive was wiped clean, I downloaded the most "complete" Paragon John Shepard save so I wouldn't have to go through playing ME1 3-4 times over again to get my own save back from the abyss.

Simply put, I just want the most difficult to get through Insanity with. I'm looking for a challenge. I'm not looking for a "worst class, worst companions, worst spec for everyone" combination. I plan to get through Insanity with the "worst" Shepard class for Insanity while utilizing the best spec for said class and my companions. I haven't payed too much attention to class balance, but from the little browsing I've done here, I'm looking at Adept. Is that right?

Thanks for the replies!

Adept probably has the steepest learning curve, though Engineer is up there as far as learning curves go. I would also point out that, in my own experience, Insanity Adept combat (especially aggressive combat) offers some of the most rewarding game play experiences.

There's no worst class.

If you want a challenge, don't upgrade weapons and don't upgrade powers at all

This.

Most fun is Adept. Image IPB

If by "worst class" you mean the one the most people hate and complain about, then the adept is it. There's a thread that's a month old now, bemoaning the adept and how hard it is when this other class trivializes insanity mode.

jwalker is right. There's no worst class. Adept can be tricky at first, but you'll get the hang of it before too long. I will say that any of the Collector missions are really easy with the Adept. Engineer is about the same.

Vanguard can be difficult until you've maxed out Charge and Passive and gotten the Biotic Amp 3/CD reduction upgrades. It stays exciting and fairly challenging, in my opinion. Sentinel, Soldier, and Infiltrator are most often cited as the easy classes. They have some advantages that make them quite survivable. Vanguard does, too, but at a higher risk.

I've seen this thread. The class it says makes Insanity too easy is Infiltrator. Image IPB

Yup. After beating game on Insanity with 5 classes minus Soldier (im not interested in that kind of simple gameplay), I would say that:

1. Infiltrator is so easy. Especially the Widow one. Though Shotgun Inf. provides some fun

2. Vanguard - you just have to learn how to use Charge properly - then it's a piece of cake (it was my first and last playthrough done on Insanity - the latter provided pure fun, as I knew exactly what to do)

3. Sentinel is boring. Tech Armor makes you almost indestructible and good choice of powers makes the class heavily overpowered

4. Engineer - pure fun class: spam drone, flank, kill. Engineer provides the best tactical experience thanks to his powers (drone, cryo)

5. Adept - aww that was some challenge. you have to learn using singularity and have some CQC experience if you want to get into the fight. Choose you squadmates wisely!

I propose Adept for a real ME2 Insanity experience

P.S. I played each class with shotgun and using CQC maneouvers, cause I dont see how spamming powers to finish your enemies can be fun in any way

The Worst class for insanity is unarmed and unarmoired civilian without biotics.

Seriously, I have finished the game with every class and game was easy with every class.

Yeah, the only difference is how long it takes to get used to a particular playstyle. All classes, with variations can blast through insanity.

Adept

it's strongest advantage as a class is crowd control (specifically AoE crowd control with singularity). Every single enemy on insanity has some sort of protection, which more or less nullifies that since by the time you strip the protection you might as well just shoot them once or twice and kill them instead of CC'ing them.

That's not to say adept can't finish insanity, or it's a bajillion times harder, or anything. Just that it's advantages over the other classes are relatively weaker compared to easier difficulties.

Adept, really? I mean you slap on Stasis as a bonus power and nobody and do crap to you. Also, the adept has the shortest cooldown time of any class I have expirenced. The only thing you have to consider is your squad and what enemies you are going against.

Guardian Sentinel has the biggest cool down bonus at 30%.
Then with Assault Armor, it is an awesome class

Dunno about worst class though.

you can also slap stasis on a soldier and be basically as good a CCer as an adept anyways.

adepts are by far the worst class on insanity because adepts suffer the most from enemy protections.

I hear the argument that once defenses are gone you might as well shoot two more times and kill them. First, I don't think there's many or any enemies with health so low that you only have to shoot twice to finish them off, regardless of weapon. Second, you need to think of enemies down to health as living bombs primed to go off on everyone else. Get one to health and it starts the cascade that makes the adept able to clear out groups with a minimal amount of effort.

Don't forget that Singularity will cc a target almost indefinitely, provided you use it every other cooldown. Adept is probably the most challenging class to play on Insanity (depending on your preferences; I actually find it the easiest), but that doesn't mean it's hard or bad.

"Hard" or "Challenging" is subjective. If you want the class that's most likely to die multiple times during a mission, you're looking at Vanguard. Fresh off ME1, you're going to struggle to find the tactical key to combat engagements, and Vanguard punishes tactical mistakes the hardest.

Many players think Adept is the hardest to play because it's the easiest class to give up on, and the play is counterintuitive to lessons learned during Soldier and Infiltrator games. They see most of the powers blacked out entering many encounters and just give up at once.

Adept is an absolute ton of fun on Insanity. I actually found it harder to find my pace on my Engineer. Either one played aggressively will give you good times and close calls on Insanity.

I think Adept and Vanguard are the hardest to figure out on insanity but at the same time the most rewarding as soon as you got the hang of it.

Already pointed out but there isn't really a worst class, just a steeper learning curve. As stated before adept on insanity involves stripping one enemy down to health and warp bomb it which begins a cascade of CC.

Vanguard is get a tactical understanding of the battle field and charging around one or two shotting people in the face with your shotgun, using allies instant cast powers to either strip the defences or finish them off if that blast to the face didn't, Oh and get into cover asap if your faceshot didnt finish them off and there are other badies close by. Only takes a few seconds out of cover to die on insanity

I'll just point out that singularity is somewhat effective against enemies with defences. It does stagger them and do minor damage. During the time they are staggered you can strip their defences and they go flying. I have just been playing Adept in ironman mode (insanity, if you die you delete the character and start again from scratch) and it is surprisingly effective. It is better than I remembered.

Your squad should also consist - whenever possible - of Jack and Jacob only.

it is different for everyone. Vanguard is hardest imo, simply b/c his unique powers are rarely effective. when i was playing as one, it felt like i was playing as a nerfed soldier.

also, jack is awesome on insanity with Zaeed, squad warp ammo, and an engineer Shepard with Reave

What game did you actually play? I know Vanguard can be hard at fist but saying his unique power is rarely effective is just wrong.

On Insanity, I'd rank the classes as follows.

1. Sentinel

2. Soldier

3. Infiltrator

4. Vanguard

5. Engineer

6. Adept

All of them are good, though. There isn't any Mass Effect Engineer class that's just gimped across the board. My personal favorite classes to play on Insanity, though, are Infiltrator and Soldier. Playing an Adept and doing nothing but sit in cover and spam blue light balls like I'm playing Street Fighter gets boring really quickly. I like being able to move and attack.

I think Adept without any tech bonus power would be the worst setup (at least for me) for a Insanity run.

Because the majority of the enemies have regular shields.
