Hi! Would that be possible or not? Baldur's Gate is an old game, and there probably would be a lot of graphic issues and configuration issues but would it be playable on an External Hard Drive if I installed it there? Since it is an older game and it does not require much out of a computer, I don't think it will lag. If I do install it on an external hard drive (I never did before) would the save files go on my computer? Sorry, I'm not sure how to do this, but I do not want to use up my computer's hard drive. Thank you!

The game shouldn't take up that much space. The only thing I can suggest is install it to your external hdd and find out. I don't install programs to my external, just backup.

At the point you install the game you are given the option of where you want to put it. All save files will be to a sub-folder in that location, so if you put it on your external drive that's where save files will be.

Oh ok I see. Thanks! I just wanted to do this so I could easily transport the game incase the OS doesn't work. (For now I use it on my XP Computer but I rarely use that computer, so I wanted to transport it) Thanks for the help.

You should be able to install it on an external drive, I considered doing this for space reasons but never got round to it. You won't be able to run the games on another computer even with the drive attached to it as registry entries won't exist for it.

Oh I see. I guess I'll just do that to save memory or disk space. Thanks.

I tested it out. It runs fine, but there are slight areas of lag sometimes. It doesn't ruin the gameplay, but every few minutes or so there wil lbel ike five seconds of stutter.

You can run it on another computer just fine. Call bgmain.exe to start the game, bgconfig.exe to run the configuration.

The only thing that requires registry keys is baldur.exe, which (when the game is properly installed) will in turn call the two other executables. You can skip that step by calling them directly and freely copy the game folder between computers or move the drive between computers.

Oh I see. I'll keep that in mind when I want to switch computers. (Newer OS sometimes screws things up.) Thanks!
