The Kelly romance will be carried over into ME3 via your save file. If it will have any consequences is another question.

You can casually flirt with Kelly a little and it won't affect your relationship. Most likely if you don't take it too far it won't have any negative effects. In LotSB, my first character continued his relationship with Liara without an issue being raised, which was after the suicide mission. But he was the only character I did either of those. Flirting with Kelly and romance with Liara that is.

This is why I don't really want to play ME again until ME3 comes out, as I've romanced Kelly regularly, but want my canon Shepard to stay with Liara. I wouldn't turn down an opportunity for a noncanon one to go for Kelly, though.

I romanced Liara and stayed faithful (it was just dinner!!). She didn't give me any trouble when I met her again in LotSB. Besides, Kelly is dead anyway... :(

I'd love to romance Kelly... if you could have a serious, intellectually mature relationship as opposed to the over-the-top flirtation requirement.

I always felt dirty after "romancing" Kelly Chambers. Not that there's anything wrong with her as a person. Sleeping with your assistant just feels like an out-of-character moment for Shepard. A hero like him just doesn't screw around with random yeomen and act like nothing happened.

Could be, but I hope that it was an attempt by Bioware to put a bit of variety in the types of relationships you can have rather than the straight foward 'I love you and want to be with you forever, well until the next game if someone better comes along as you won't even join my crew again' kind of relationship.  With Kelly you basically get a fling.  I'd like to see some further expansion of that idea in ME3.  Perhaps have one night stands with minor characters in the game like Shiala or Parrisini.

I always wanted to romance that woman in Engineering. You know the one with the strong New York? accent.

Is having dinner with Kelly and romancing her two separate flags? I guess my question is, is it possible to get Kelly to feed the fish without flirting with her and tripping the romance flag?

I have a playthough where Shepard was friendly but didn't blatantly flirt with Kelly *, had dinner with her, didn't get some of the romance specific dialog, wasn't able to invite her up later, and got her to feed the fish.

* I'm not sure if subscribing to Kelly's hug therapy after the collector ship and after the Garrus recruitment was considered flirting. No hugs actually took place.

But seriously, if Bioware doesn't explicitly say in ME3 that having dinner counts has having sex (which as far as I have experienced is not the norm) I stand by my conviction that I sent her back down after dinner.

I romanced Kelly on one of my playthroughs. It was fun. But I have a feeling we aren't going to see much of her in Mass Eeffect 3.

Husband: I was having dinner... with my cute secretary.... until 1 AM in the morning.
Wifey: I want a divorce.

C'mon, we all know that to get people to feed your fish you have to bone them first!

It's a fact of life.

QFT. Also, I realize the player can give Shepard several significant character flaws (violent, racist, sociopathic etc.), but falling to the arms of the first eager lady in such a casual manner just seems wrong.

I hope I'll have the persuasion checks needed to convince Liara and Kelly into a threesome. I would max both meters if I had to!

Kelly's romance is the most realistic and mature relationship you can have on the Normandy SR2.

By far.

I hate how you have to flirt with Kelly in order to get her to feed the fish.

You don't have to flirt with her to have her feed your fish.  You can just be friends with her too.  You just need to have dinner with her.

There are two paths with Yeoman Chambers: flirty and friendly.  When she says she knows you'd catch her, you have three responses:
1. I'd drop you:  Kelly will now be all business.  No friendship there.
2. I'd catch you:  You have started the friendship path with her.
3. I'd embrace you:  You have started the flirty path with her.

If you pick 3, the next time you talk to her she even double checks if you meant to be flirty.  She asks is she was too forward.  At that point you can basically say you didn't mean to give her the wrong impression, and move back to the friend path.

If you talk to her often and aren't rude to her, at some point she will say she'd like to get to know you better.  She has to be comfortable with you before she'd even mention such a thing.  You are her commanding officer after all.  At that point you can have dinner with her, on BOTH the friendly and flirty paths.  What happens during dinner if implied by you.  On the friendly path, obviously it was two friends enjoying conversation.  On the flirty path... well, you tell me.  What happened there is dependant on how your Shepard would approach things.

So if you have a friendship, you won't get flirt options, but she will confide in you her thoughts and feelings about people.  Once you have dinner with her, she now feel comfortable enough to suggest entering your private quarters to feed your fish.

And even if you are on the flirty path and have dinner with her, that doesn't necessarily imply you were physical with her.

One thing I wonder, though, Dusty, is what happens if you pick multiple options?  Because that "I'd embrace you" line (and the others) can be chosen as many times as you wish.

Well.... that is kind of a bug.  You weren't supposed to be able to get to that line more than once.  I'd rather not shine the light on the broken parts of the game, but you've supported Yeoman Chambers so much, Mystranna, I can't help but give full disclosure.

The choices only matter the first time you pick them.

If you pick the "I'd drop you.", she goes professional and you can't even get back to the question again.
If you pick "I'd catch you", you start friendly, then later pick "I'd embrace you", you are now on the flirty path.  A later pick of "I'd catch you" still keeps you on the flirty path.

Hmm...I've gotten to her dance for me so I've succeeded at the end of the game but I'd thought I'd picked "I'd embrace you" and then later "I'd catch you" on the way.

although I went with Miranda I did like Kelly and replayed the SM because I lost her and some of the crew because of the time limit. Could have left it as it was but did not like losing her
