I was able to play through this game twice without any issues and one day I go to launch the game and it tells me that it couldn't initialize Physx and that I needed to update my drivers from NVIDIA. I do not have an NVIDIA card; I have an ATI Radeon HD 5670 that came built in with my iMac. I have contacted EA and AMD and they have sent me in circles and I haven't been able to play this game in over a week! I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me? My specs are:
Mid-2010 27" iMac
Intel i3 processor
ATI Radeon HD 5670 GPU
1TB HDD; 4GB RAM
I really don't wanna restore my system to factory settings since I don't have an external hard drive and haven't set up Time Machine. But this issue is really starting to bug me.

PhysX is owned by nVidia, and as such it's an nVidia product now.
You can download the drivers for PhysX, but I'm struggling to find the Mac versions. You might be best e-mailing nVidia or TransGaming (Who created the thingy DA:O runs on for Macs; It's called Cider) and they may be able to help you find out how to update the PhysX drivers.

You don't need Mac PhysX files. Mac uses OpenGL and the Cider wrapper (inside which a Windows DA:O runs) translates PhysX to OpenGL. So you'll need Windows files installed inside the DA:O Cider installation. There's definitely nothing wrong with your system, since Apple OSX doesn't use PhysX drivers by default.
I can give you the file locations in my installation: (Right click the DA:O.app and select "Show Contents" to open the contents folder)
/Applications/Dragon Age/Dragon Age Origins.app/contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/windows/system32: PhysXCudart_20.dll and PhysXLoader.dll
/Applications/Dragon Age/Dragon Age Origins.app/contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/AGEIA Technologies/: PhysXCooking.dll and PhysXCore.dll.
I just, as a test, disabled all PhysX files, and the ones that, on startup, give the message you mention are those in the AGEIA technologies folder. The ones in the win32 folder won't start anything at all. So it's one of the two files in the AGEIA folder. The NVidia part might just be a standard message left over, since the Cider installation was first developed for NVidia cards.
So, check if these files are there. They may be damaged or missing. To me, the whole thing looks more like a corruption of your DA:O installation, which would mean a re-install of DA:O. Which, all in all, almost looks like less trouble compared to trying to install Windows PhysX into a Cider environment running on a mac...
You might, however, try this: you can find the dll files on the internet (on your own risk) and manually copy them to the appropriate folder. Maybe this works, maybe not.

I just tried replacing the .dll files from ones on the internet (I kept original files in a separate location) and I am still getting the error. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game many, many times to no avail. I contacted Dragon Age support and they said Boot Camp may have had something to do with it (even though I never ever used it). I uninstalled BC but nothing worked. I contacted NVIDIA and they said that since I have an ATI card they can't help me either. This forum is my last hope. And since it was a digital download, there's no chance of me getting my money back.

Hmm... I'm at a a loss right now. I've posted everything I knew about the subject. The "spare" .dll might not work because they are not in Cider's registry if they don't get properly installed. (keep in mind that everything inside the Cider wrapper works as a Windows machine, not a Mac.) I can't help you there, since I never cared enough about Windows... Do system logs (Mac or DA:O) say anything specific after the "crash"? You can find the Mac system logs in the "Console" application (as well as the DA:O logs, IIRC - I'm not at my DA:O computer right now)
Did you try the "reset to defaults" (Or whatever its name is) button in the DA:O launcher screen? I don't think it'll work, but you never know...

Yeah when I check the dragon age log, it brings up Console. This is what is says: "failed to initialize Physx" and "failed to initialize Eclipse" and then the game shuts down. I did try the reset to defaults button on the game loader screen but that doesn't do anything.

When I browse to the location where the cider launchers are and double click on the "cider_noui" option it launches the terminal along with the app. Right before I get the error, I get this long list of terminal errors (I guess they are errors??)

It's actually common with WINE/Cider applications to give a string of error messages at startup. They usually list incompatibilities between windows, osx, and the wrapper that the developers didn't find necessary to fix.
When I start DA:O (the way you did), I get the same errors, but before your last three errors I get additional ones:
----------
...
err:heap:NewRtlFreeHeap block 0x4354248 isn't a valid part of heap 0x70447e10 [same as yours]

Do you get any system console messages from kernel, cider, wine or DA:O while trying to launch?
(Looking under "all messages" or "console messages" in console.app (not the terminal)?
It seems that the only people who might know what is happening could be TransGaming, who developed the Cider version of DA:O. I think now is a good time to contact them, maybe citing our conversation (which hopefully they won't TL;DR).

Re-install the game? Have you tried this?
Since DAO is a cider game, the phyx driver has been integrated into the wrapper itself. So if reinstalling can not solve the problem, i suggest you contact GametreeMac for more help.

Hey sorry guys. I had totally forgotten about this forum. I had sorta given up. I tried using Onyx to clear my Applications cache, and I cleared my System cache as well and reinstalled the game. I am still getting the same error. I think that this game is determined to not work for me anymore.

That is really weird. I still recommend contacting Transgaming.

I'm having the exact same series of errors, and its infuriating. I've redownloaded each .dll file in hopes that replacing them can get this game working. Ive done a clean reinstall, and still nothing is working.
I think I'm just going to erase the whole thing, throw my saves on a flash drive, and download the windows version.

TransGaming or EA customer support seems to be the way to go at this point, I'm sorry to say.

I actually got the game working again. I enabled my root user, redownloaded the disk image, installed the game to my root user's Applications directory, and it works fine. Seems like it's a problem with the regular user's graphics settings, but I don't know how to tweak them, and since the game is working fine, I don't think I'll try.
